Indians Take Top of CBS From Wooster

The Rittman Indians defeated the Wooster Generals 21 20 in overtime to claim the Central Buckeye League lead. Pete Miracle and Dick Grant led Wooster with 15 and 18 points respectively as Rittman surged from an 18 3 first quarter deficit. The two teams traded leads through the game with Sparks pacing Rittman and Detrow and Miracle featuring for Wooster. The victory sets up non league games with Dalton and Canal Fulton ahead.

Democratic slate in Wooster presages May primary

Petitions counted at the Court House in Wooster after the Wednesday deadline show two World War II veterans among Democratic candidates. The May primary lineup includes Auditor Earl Lautenschlager. Commissioner contenders M. C. Ebright and Ivan Steiner. State Representative Dan S. Yoder. State Senator Ward Ramseyer. and Rittman precinct committeemen C. E. Rhonemus and Hattie Sigler.

March of Dimes Boxes Extended to February 15

Worcester County Chair man William H. Wertz announces that March of Dimes contribution boxes in local businesses will not be collected until February 15. Other communities push campaigns to February 11 while Wertz hopes to revise his $1 800 estimate when boxes are gathered.

U B Women Collect For Canned Food Drive

The United Brethren Church Women’s Missionary Society asks each member to donate cans equal to their family size for European war relief. The drive extends to February 17 with shipments to Holland and Poland via the Mennonite Central Committee. Contact Mrs Ida Bott or committee members for details.

A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Ed Win Amweg at Wadsworth Hospital on Thursday January 24. A son to Mr and Mrs Roy Ramseyer of Marshallville on Friday January 25. A son to Mr and Mrs Howard Berry south of town on Sunday evening February 3. A son to Mr and Mrs John Thompson Willow Brook on Monday morning February 4 at Wadsworth Hospital.

X‑Ray Program for Public Stopped in Rittman

Mae Werstler of the Wayne County Tuberculosis Association announced the public X‑ray program at Rittman High School is cancelled. The public was invited to Wooster on February 9 in two time slots, with hopes to reschedule. Superintendent Garver said the cancellation followed a request from the county board of health and funded by Christmas seal money.

Wal ter Keating to speak at Follis Post 575 installation

County Legion Commander Wal ter Keating of Rittman will be among speakers at the installation ceremonies in Wooster for the new Benjamin C. Follis Post No. 575. He is joined by local veterans and civic leaders as the post officially opens tonight.

Boys Village Gifts Organized in Rittman

The Boys Village committee in Rittman held a Monday meeting at City Hall to establish a permanent organization. Officers include Rev. Dwight B. Davidson as chairman and Mrs. Sylvia Hardgrove as secretary. The group seeks 15000 to start operations and received a 5 gift from the Three Arts Club.

Moose Initiate 53 at Rittman Lodge 860 Night

On February 4 1946 the Women of the Moose in Rittman Lodge 860 hosted a chicken dinner for over 100 members then initiated 53 candidates. The Mansfield degree team led by Paul Grohol Paul Ritchie Leo Eccles Lloyd Hughes and others performed the ritual amid songs and dancing.

Junior High Boys Start School Patrol At Square

A trial school boy safety patrol operates at the Square twice daily to guard the crossing for students. The plan was proposed by the village safety committee led by Clarence Kunkler with Mayor Melvin R. Ritter and R. V. Fredrick. Principal Clyde Kindig chose Angelo Cardace Ronald Woyat Richard Winkler and Richard Kanehl for week one. Other volunteers will join, and the city provides poles and A A A flags.

School Board Wins Full Days for First Grade and Expands Rooms

Rittman school leaders plan full day sessions for first graders next week after board action. They approve two new rooms on the second floor and a study room from the old gym, with demolition and remodeling underway. A survey of the district is to be conducted by an Ohio State University affiliated expert to guide improvements, while transportation and facility upgrades address safety and space needs.
