The Women of the R. C. Can Company hosted a bridal shower for Miss Amelia Preattle at Mrs. Wade Rohrer’s home. She is to wed Thursday to Anthony Cordas. The honoree received many gifts and refreshments were served by the hostess.
Mrs. Elizabeth Eisele announces the forthcoming marriage of her daughter Clara Mae to Mr. Robert Charles Elsass on February 24 at the First Congregational Church in Geneva Ohio. Miss Eisele teaches in Geneva schools and Mr. Elsass was formerly a partner in the Ben Franklin Store here.
Milton Presbyterian Church circle met February 12 at Mrs. Donald Kick’s home. Twenty six members and two guests attended with Mary Gibler directing a program on the American Negro and The Christian Advance in Africa. Refreshments were served by the hostess and Mrs Herman Baehr.
The W M C of the First Brethren Church met at June Lance's home on Thursday evening with Emma Blatter as assistant hostess. Blanch Moomaw led devotional prayer circle, and June Lance led, with readings, songs, scripture, mission study, and a Bible study by Thelma Gehman. Eleven members answered roll call. Thelma Fix reported on the district rally. The March meeting will be at Elsie Copley's home.
Mr. Thomas Charlton of Berea visits friends in Rittman and attends the Masons Lodge meeting Tuesday evening. Miss Joyce Harpster returns to Miami University after staying with the Ed Peete family due to illness. Mr. Edward Bates, husband of Peggy Louroe, has an emergency appendectomy at Wadsworth Hospital Tuesday evening.

Mr and Mrs Walter Champlin announce the engagement of their daughter Phyllis to Kenneth Forrer son of Mr and Mrs Homer Forrer Miss Champlin a Rittman High School Class of 1945 graduate and Wooster area receptionist Forrer a Rittman High School Class of 1940 graduate spent three years at Georgia Tech and three years in the armed forces including two as a weather officer with the 44th Bomb Group in Europe He now works in the Engineering Dept of the Ohio Injector Co in Wadsworth Wedding date not yet set
The Women's Missionary Society of the United Brethren church held its annual Thank Offering in the church parlors on February 7 with 32 members and five guests. Mrs. Ada Mae Bott presided, devotionals were led by Mrs. Henry Leady, a duet by Miss Dorothy Adams and Miss Marjorie Schumacher was presented, and a program “A Period of Testimonies” read from service members.
Mr and Mrs Elmer McElroy of Wadsworth announce the engagement of their daughter Elva to Carl Gordon son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Gordon of Rittman. Elva a 1944 Wadsworth High graduate works as a Vinocerlt's Drug Store clerk and Carl a 1943 grad farms for his father. Nuptial vows planned for some time in the month.
Rittman junior high basketball team with a strong win record enters the Barberton junior tournament starting February 25. Coach W. F. Echols will announce pairings soon after a Tuesday afternoon game at Barberton Portage School.
The Rittman Scout Council schedules the first week of March for a community wide Scout Fund drive to support two Boy Scout troops, one Girl Scout troop, and a Cub Scout group through 1946. A council meeting at City Hall Monday night will set the budget and canvass details. The drive follows National Boy Scout Week activities and a recent waste paper drive yielding 11 000 pounds.
Construction work on the new Baptist church in Ohio will be postponed to about May 1 after the foundation and stage have passed. Changes in plans above ground were announced by Rev. W. F. Echols. The remainder of the project will be supervised by Akron architect Sagenderny.
H. B. Gray, former serviceman for the Ohio Fuel Gas Co. here, has returned to his former work and is living on E. Sunset drive. He was an instructor in instruments for 34 1/2 years in the Air Corps.

Camp weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces at Wadsworth Hospital on February 10. A son born to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bachman at Wadsworth Hospital on Friday February 8. Twin babies Nora Louise 4 pounds? ounces and Robert Edward 1 pound 8 ounces born to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Heppert of Doylestown at Wadsworth Hospital.
G I Teague Jr opens a bakery in the former Lance grocery room on S Main St Rittman between Swat Sandwich Shoppe and Straits Barber Shop. He plans a modern sales room and bakery department with Hotpoint ovens and will specialize in cakes while offering a general line of baked goods.
City officials report cooperation from Erie and B and O railroads to improve drainage and crossings. Erie plans replacement of a center light and ditch work. B and O will install 30 inch pipe under tracks. Mayor Ritter cites January fines total 51.40 and enforces rubbish disposal ban.
Mrs Paul Johnson of 101 Gan yardst was added Monday to the first grade teaching staff to enable all first graders to return to full day classes. Present enrollment of first grade is 91 according to the school office. The new arrangement approved by the head of education at the last meeting returns the pupils to the same rooms used when half day sessions were ordered last October. The new teacher moves between the two rooms giving special instruction.
The Milton Garden Club met at Sterling High School with 11 members present. Activities included roll call, a pronunciation segment, a discussion on seeds bulbs and plants, indoor seed starting, a garden spelling bee led by the president, and notes for February.
