Sam Stymlan May Be New Night Cop
In a special session the council authorized the appointment of Sam Strimlan as the new night patrolman to replace E. E. Mills who resigned. Strimlan, 35, of 240 Industrial St, is married with a 11 month old daughter and served with military police in World War II. He will assume duties Jan 1.

Pvt Robert Hart Seriously Injured in Kentucky Car Crash
An army car collision on the Dixie Die Way between Louisville and Elizabethtown Kentucky left Pvt Robert E Hart seriously injured and Pvt Richard A Miller slightly hurt. M/Sgt Andrew M Timchick 38 of Pittsburgh Pa was killed. Hart suffered a brain concussion and three leg fractures. He is at the post hospital and was to receive a seven day furlough this week.

Party At Legion Home Delights 100 Children
About 100 children attended a Christmas party at the American Legion home on Saturday night. The event was hosted by the American Legion Lions club and Legion Auxiliary with treats for all. The program featured musical numbers including Winter Wonderland and Santa Claus is Coming to Town, vocal duets by Judy Sparks and Rhetta Armbrust, and instrumental pieces by Eleanor Schneider and Tom Miller.

Christmas Lighting Winners Named in Chamber Contest
Clarence Kunkler of Grandview Ave won first prize in the annual Outdoor Christmas Lighting contest by the Chamber of Commerce. Prizes were 15 dollars for first, 10 dollars for second to Robert Refford of Sheldon Ave, and 5 dollars for third to Russell Howell of E Ohio Ave. Judges were Mrs. Ralph Gwaltney Charles Rohrer and C E Rhonemus. Hubert Christian age 48 died after a cerebral hemorrhage while at work in the power department of the Ohio Boxboard Co Wednesday. He died at Lodi hospital. Services scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow at Murray Funeral Home Creston with Rev C R Bearmore officiating. Burial at Rittman cemetery. Survivors include wife Etta four sons Virgil in Korea William Howard and Melvin all at home three daughters Erma Irvin Creston Alice and Betty all at home and he had been employed since August 1928.

Firemen Called Twice Rittman Volunteers Respond to Alarms
Rittman volunteer firemen were sent to two alarms in a week. On Thursday a false alarm near Protector Inc. factory at College and Industrial streets triggered a response after boxes were burned.
