Warren Hardgrove Sr presents a yellowed issue from Sept 7 1916 listing property assessments for a sewerage system at 56 cents per foot front in cash. The Realty block office and figures for local ads appear with C W Hoover J W Parsons L H Parsons named as top figures. Hanes Ebert advertise rockers dressers library tables at less than cost. A H Thomas opens a new drug store. John Wenger’s Grocery offers two cans pink salmon for 15 cents. Wheat at 938 cents per bushel from Hershey Rohrers D W Brenneman quotes butter at 30 cents a pound.
A state safety campaign shows cemetery workers suffer higher accident rates than Ohio steel plants. Cemetery injury frequency reached 47.8 versus steel plants where 100 is unacceptable and five appears crucial, suggesting cemetery work is four to five times riskier. He who speaks by the yard thinks by the inch, yet a good speech remains concise.
A fox hunt will be staged near Rittman on New Year's Day announced by C. G. Haulk. Participants of all ages are invited to meet at 1 pm in Rittman square. Line captains will be named, transportation provided, and noise makers urged. refreshments follow at the ring.
A son born to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Keener of Rittman R. D. at Wadsworth hospital on Thursday December 4. A son born to Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Beckwith at Wadsworth hospital on Wednesday December 3. A daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Houts at Wadsworth hospital on Sunday December 7.
A number of special Christmas programs are planned by Rittman churches. Milton Presbyterian hosts sermons, a vesper, and a student program through Dec 23. First Brethren, Church of Christ, Church of God, and First Baptist schedule sermons, Christmas programs, cantatas, tree and treats, and children’s events on Dec 21 and 22 with various groups and times.
Lawrence Wilmot was chosen as president of the Booster Club at a high school meeting. Lewis Hoover and Betty Haller were named vice president and secretary treasurer. The group approved buying a movie camera and projector to aid football practice and review game films for players and fans.
Rittman High cagers top the Central Buckeye League after two decisive victories over winless foes. Wooster sits unbeaten but has played one more game.
The board of trustees elected Robert Freed as the first president of the new organization at a Wednesday after noon meeting. Other officers named include W. W. Bodager as vice president J W Frye as secretary Ralph Krabill as treasurer and Charles Wald as assistant secretary.
The trustees discussed five community projects including road improvements around Rittman, a legislative survey for new home construction utilities, a Buy In Rittman merchants program, expanded recreational facilities, and hospitality efforts for newcomers. Ernest Harrison chairs the publicity committee.
The Rittman Scout Organization voted to build a two floor Scout Lodge on a three acre park site. Funds come from public gifts with land bought last summer as a special gift. The project includes a stockade entrance and a year round lodge for all groups. Residents can contribute money materials equipment and labor to the community venture.
Rittman Indians beat Millersburg 61 22 on home floor to claim their second Central Buckeye League win. Neal Milford led with 13 points as 9 of 10 players scored. reserves won 32 24. Earlier they defeated Loudonville in a league game. Saturday they downed Smithville 54 38 at Smithville to keep the win streak alive.
