Fred Ellis 52 Dies in Packaging Plant Hydro Pulper Accident
Fred Ellis aged 52 drowned early Wednesday in an industrial incident at Packaging Corporation of America where he had worked seven years. Born in Pritchard West Virginia he moved to Rittman seven years ago and was a Methodist. Survived by his wife Oriole Pickens Ellis, ten children and seven siblings he was laid to rest after services in Gillman Haines Funeral Home and Bellamy Chapel Hubbardstown with burial at Strawther Cemetery.

Snow Delays Rittman Schools After Snowstorm
Six inches of snow Tuesday forced a one day school closure in Rittman and created hazardous driving. Crews worked around the clock clearing streets, with drifts over four feet on the west end. Main roads cleared by Thursday as schools resumed before holiday recess. Temperatures hit six degrees below zero and country readings were much lower. Police reported only one fender bender within the city limits.

Owain Acker of Leroy Ohio becomes Rittmans newest policeman appointed by City Manager Charles Mann after a Safety Committee meeting. Acker 27 has four years with the Ohio State Patrol as a dispatcher and works at Wayne Auto Parts in Wooster. He starts Jan 1 1961 and will be the fifth full time officer.

Christmas Eve Services Planned by Two Rittman Churches
Two Rittman churches prepare Christmas Eve services with wide parish participation. Milton Presbyterian Church hosts its seventh annual 9 p.m. Communion service featuring the Senior Choir. Rev James E Watt will lead Christmas morning worship with a sermon on The Mystery of Christmas, citing Luke 2 8 20 and 1 Timothy 3 16.
