Watershed Engineer Sets Up Office Here
John Garrett, project engineer of the Soil Conservation Service, opened a Rittman office to lead design for the Chippewa Watershed project. He will oversee the five construction seasons, with surveys starting January 9 and construction slated to begin around June 1962. Garrett, now in Lancaster, plans to move his family to Rittman and is married with sons John Keenan nine, Timothy Eugene seven, and Randall.

Milton Presbyterian Church completed a two week fundraising drive raising 149700 toward a new church and educational building on three acres along North Street. The project aims for a total cost of 250000 with Rev James E Watt praising 32 canvassers and the dedicated fundraising committee led by William F Davis Jr. The effort included a victory dinner and coordinated teams across four groups.

Nomination Opens for Rittman’s 1960 Distinguished Citizen
Nominations must be mailed by Jan 9 to Chamber of Commerce Secretary Marguerite Burger at 1612 North Main Street. Each entry lists volunteer work for community betterment, with a $50 savings bond prize at the chamber dinner on Jan 19. An extra $10 prize goes to the entrant. The chamber also plans a twelfth night tree burning at the Rittman swimming pool on Jan 5.

Rittman Ballot Set For School Levy Question
Rittman voters face a 4.5 mill school operating levy renewal on the November 1961 ballot. The current levy expires at year end, and board officials have not finalized the decision, noting a possible increase. A May ballot would have required a 60 percent vote for passage, but a regular election needs only a majority yes vote.

Blood drive in Rittman falls short of quota

Six Members Of Local Family Hurt In Crash
The Baker family of Rittman suffered six injuries after a Friday crash near Ulrichsville Ohio on Route 8. Baker 26 veered left of center hitting a northbound car killing Mr and Mrs John Cox of Tippecanoe. The Bakers were hospitalized. Baker underwent brain surgery and was described in fair condition. Lorraine Baker had facial injuries, John Baker a broken leg, Joyce a head wound, Albert facial cuts, and Arnold severe finger cuts.
