OES installs Rittman Chapter 529 officers for December

Eastern Star chapter 529 in Rittman held installation of officers on Thursday December 13 with Hugh L. Strickland as installing officer. New officers named include worthy matron Mrs Donald Baker worthy patron Leonard Over and associate matron Mrs William Swartz with several other posts. Following ceremonies members and guests joined a Christmas themed buffet in the dining room. The next meeting is December 27 with initiation of candidates under the new staff.

Library Hours Announced for Christmas Holiday

Mead Librarian Mrs Kathleen Hilliard announces holiday hours. The library closes at 5 p m on Christmas Eve and reopens at 3 p m on Wednesday December 26.

Linda Laukhuf wins second straight Press coloring contest

Linda Laukhuf 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Laukhuf of RFC Rittman, wins first prize in the Press coloring contest ahead of 50 drawings. Second and third prizes go to Lynda Trogdon 10 of 213 N. Seneca St and Patty Pittman 7 of RFC Pittman.

Volunteers Bring Cheer to 31 Rittman Families This Christmas

A volunteer group in Rittman organized Christmas boxes for over 30 local families. They filled each box with food toys and clothing tailored to each family's needs. Citizens donated most canned food toys and clothing while local businesses funded meat and fresh produce. The effort, led by Mrs. Russell Lewis and Mrs. Ralph Gwaltney, includes multiple clubs and groups aiding twenty plus families.

Case Tech honors Frank Hardgrove with Bale memorial award

Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland names Frank Hardgrove the Les Bale memorial award recipient at the annual Case Tech athletic banquet. He receives a Bulova President wrist watch a varsity letter and two stripes for the football honor plans to graduate as a Civil Engineer in spring with several job interviews ahead.

Creston Lions hear talk on Russia

The Creston Lions and their ladies plan a Christmas party while a slide talk outlines how Russians do not celebrate Christmas and how Russian children miss Old Saint Nicholas. Slides by Russell W. Frey show Russians at work, at play and at home. Frey has booked talks with Rittman Mothers Club January 2 Medina Rotary January 17 Acme Lutheran Church January 19 and Lodi Rotary February 12.

Local groups donate to Recreation Hall fund drive

Five additional organizations contribute to the Recreation Hall fund with gifts for a year of operation. Mothers Club gives 50 dollars, Ladies of the Moose 25 dollars, Entre Nous Club 25 dollars, Chit Chat Mothers 15 dollars, and Grandmothers Club 10 dollars.

Public hearing on zoning change at City Hall

A public hearing is set for January 14 at 7 30 p m in the council chambers to consider adopting a resolution amending the zoning law for land on Home Ave owned by Clyde Semler from residential to commercial. Robert Rankin was fined 100 and costs and given three days in jail for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Herman Meredith was charged with operating a vehicle without an operator license and fined 10 and costs.

Christmas Pageants and Services Planned by Local Churches

First Church of Christ plans a Christmas pageant White Gifts with 27 youth at 50 North Main Street in the new assembly room Sunday evening. Morning sermon titled The Written and the Living Word of God. Choir will sing a Christmas anthem and Night of Nights cantata. Ev United Brethren hosts 6:30 program. First Church of God holds A Perfect Christmas. St Ann's Catholic Church announces Midnight Mass and Christmas Day services. Wesleyan Methodist Revivals conducted by John Darsey and associates.

Waynedale Tops Indians 58 55 On Road

Harold Oswald and Ed Miley led Waynedale with 20 and 19 points as Rittman’s Indians lost 58 to 55 on the road. Everett Beery scored 14 for the locals who hit under six points in many stretches. The setback leaves Rittman at one win and three losses. The game shifted after a 23 3 halftime, with Waynedale pulling away in the third before defending late. The Indians’ next game is at Norwayne.

Painting bids for two Syracuse school classrooms and entrances

Fred Yoder Painting Company submitted the low bid of 590 dollars to the Board of Education for painting three classrooms and two entrances. Two classrooms are at North St. School and the other two areas at First St. School. Other bids were David Firis Painting Company 630 dollars and Baker Painting Co 640 dollars.

Santa Arrives Saturday in Rittman for Christmas Fun

Santa arrives at 10 a.m. from the North Pole and visits downtown stores until 1 p.m. He will return to the fire station in the evening to hand out Christmas boxes to children under 12. First Church of Christ provides music for the evening party. More than 600 children expected. event funded by local groups and Chamber of Commerce.

Christmas Party Brought By Legion Auxiliary and Lions

The American Legion, Legion Auxiliary and Lions Club sponsor their annual Christmas party at the American Legion Hall on Sun Set Drive Saturday evening. The program begins at 6 30 with Santa Claus visiting and gifts for children. The auxiliary handles the entertainment and members and families are urged to attend.
