Huskies end Indians five game win streak in rout
Northwestern Husky players dominated as Rittman slipped from an undefeated run with a 45 point defeat. Ken Deffenbaugh and Terry Whims sparked early offense while Sonny Schaub led Rittman with 15 points. The Indians never recovered after a 14-10 first quarter, trailing 33-23 at halftime and 57-34 after three quarters. Northwestern pulled away late, extending the Indians’ skid and leaving Northwestern as Wayne County’s top team heading into holidays.

Services held for slain man in Ohio
In Woodsfield Ohio on Monday relatives and friends gathered for Joseph Stewart 36 of Rittman Road who was killed after an argument at the Triangle Drive In near Worth Friday night Stewart a father of six worked at Morton Salt Company and formerly lived on Sunset Drive He was shot by Garry Long 21 of Wadsworth Long held without bond on a first degree murder charge bound over to the January Grand Jury and has pleaded not guilty Police say the dispute over Stewart paying attention to Longs wife Bessie who worked at the Drive In led to the deadly shooting Long was captured by State Patrolman August Perone after fleeing the scene Stewart and his family lived near the Wayne Medina county line and the six children range from ages 3 to 15

Two youths sustained minor injuries after autos struck them on Rittman streets last week. Charles Akers 38 N State St crossed Main and Sheldon injuring a sled rider. he and driver Alford Boyes 136 Front St were not held. Mark Ditwiler 3 of Seville was hit on Main St by Harry Walker 40 N State St and released after examination.

Paul Bertshy, nine, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Bertshy of Seville, won the Christmas coloring contest from 100 entries in the Rittman Press. His brother Lloyd won Easter honors previously. Paul may delay prize collection due to measles. Connie Lou Baker took second, Linda Laukauf and June Baker placed third and fourth. Fifty cent prizes went to several children. Contest sponsored by Pittman Press to boost local art. Winners’ pictures appear at the Press office windows. awards may be picked up before Jan 1. The Chamber of Commerce urges residents to decorate homes this Christmas season to make Rittman one of the prettiest in the area. Judges from outside the town will select winners with cash prizes of 25, 15, and 10 dollars for first through third place. judging is set for December 27.

Stalled car struck by train on Grie tracks
A car owned by William Powell stalled on Grie Railroad tracks Tuesday afternoon and was struck by a train. Police said damage was limited as most of the car was off the tracks and Powell was not injured. Mr and Mrs Harry L Brewer and daughters Tanya and Debra of Wichita Falls Texas plan to visit John Collins in Rittman for the holidays.

Santa to greet 600 children at Rittman party
Santa Claus will arrive in Rittman on December 21 to greet over 600 youngsters. He arrives in the morning and distributes goodies in local stores, then at 6:30 p.m. visits the fire station to give Christmas boxes to children 12 and under. The event is sponsored by the Recreation Advisory Council with gifts from Ohio Boxboard Co and support from many local clubs and organizations.
