Telephone service complaints heard at Wayne Farm Bureau meeting
Wayne Farm Bureau members met at Milton Township Hall in Sterling Monday night to air slow telephone service concerns. Don Hickerson of Ohio Telephone Company attended along with Myron Steiner and Russell Frey. The group noted clogged Sterling to Rittman lines and long waits for long distance connections. Hickerson urged complaints and said charges to him could be reversed from his Orrville office. A general subscriber meeting is planned for January or February in Rittman.

Atlas Freight Line drivers and some office workers at the Ohio Boxboard Co. donated $207 this week to Boys Village in Smithville for recreation equipment. The Newark main office added $200, expanding a holiday drive started last year by drivers led by Bill Burke who redirected their $3 gift exchange funds to the charity.

Deadline Nearing for Rittman Outstanding Citizen
Less than a week remains to submit nomination letters for Rittman’s most distinguished citizen award sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Letters by nominees or nominators explain volunteer work done for the community, with a judging committee from outside the town selecting the winner. The prize includes a $50 savings bond and $10 to the letter writer. this is the sixth year of the contest.

Recreation council unveils the biggest yearly program for locals led by council president Don Glessner. Winter activities include sledding skating skiing and tobogganing at Clover Street pond Seneca Street ice near Erie depot and near Diversion Hall after Jan 3 hours 3 30 to 5 and 6 30 to 9 pm Monday through Friday. Five Friday dances planned in January with High School Recreation Council. Cub scout tumbling classes second Thursday and fourth Thursday monthly. ceramic classes for children and adults require teacher help.

Funeral services were held at St. Ann's Church for Emma Mary Calabris 51 of 89 East Ohio Ave who died Friday after a brief illness at Wadsworth Municipal Hospital. Born in Italy she came to the U S as a child and lived in Rittman 40 years. Survived by husband Sylvester two sons James and Carmen eight sisters and her parents.
