Winners announced in merchants' drawing

Winners announced in the merchants drawing must claim rewards at Rittman Savings Bank by December 20. A Monday 9 a.m. drawing by Mayor O A Houglan yielded 34 prizes from $200 to $10, with winning numbers listed and valid at sponsoring merchants on the back of the payout vouchers.

Rittman Press Christmas Coloring Contest Promises Prizes

The contest invites children from Rittman Doyles town Marshallville Sterling and Creston to color with crayons pencils or paints. Classroom winners receive a box of crayons and advance to a grand prize leather bound zipper notebook. Age limit 12. Entries due December 22 at 5 p.m. Judging December 23. winners published December 24. Multiple entries allowed per child but one prize per person. Names of judges to be announced later.

Red Heads to Play Rittman All-Stars December 19

The All American Red Heads meet Rittman All-Stars at Rittman High School gym on Friday December 19 with a 7 30 pm prelim between faculty and seniors. Tip off for the Red Heads is 8 30 pm with tickets 1 25 adults 75c students. Katherine Pitcock star of the Red Heads joins the lineup for the spectacle of trick shots and ball handling against male opponents.

Sunshine Class of the First Church of God hosts a Friday December 12 7 30 pm party taught by Mrs E B Lyle. Rittman High School semi formal dance Friday December 12 8 30 to 11 30 pm with a seven piece orchestra. The postponed Lutheran Church Women meeting will be Sunday afternoon at Acme Lutheran Church. Chit Chat Mothers Club holds a pot luck supper Tuesday December 16 at 7 pm at Mrs Stanley Dague home featuring a gift exchange. Loyal Workers class of Acme Lutheran Church meets Tuesday December 16 at Fellowship Hall for Christmas party with birthday observers handling arrangements. December meeting of Rittman Grandmothers Club Wednesday December 17 at 1 30 pm at Mrs Hattie Swartz 91 S First St. Cub Scout Pack meeting to follow.

Christmas party plans at American Legion Home

The session on December 18 at 6 30 p m will invite all members and families. Mrs Wilber Shreve and Den 1 will handle decorations while Mrs T R Sword and her den supervise opening and closing exercises. Mrs George Griffith and her den manage entertainment and refreshments. Each cub must bring a 25 cent gift for a gift exchange and a usable toy wrapped for a boy or girl plus canned goods for a needy family. Merry Mixers dine December 17 at noon at Mrs Harry Simons home in Orrville.

Lights add final touch to season in Rittman area

The holiday display lit up Rittman and nearby towns with the Chamber of Commerce supervising the effort. Decorations including strings of lights, evergreen bows, and ornaments adorned the business districts and town square. The Decorating Service Co of Columbus erected the displays. Creston and Doylestown also showcased impressive festive scenes, with Doylestown described as looking like a giant Christmas tree from Route 5 hill.

New well to boost Rittman water supply in January

Rittman prepares a new water well under Board of Public Affairs member Lewis Burnett. The well house is complete, equipment arriving this month, and installation will finish by year end. Located near River Styx off Industrial St, it will operate at about 50 percent capacity, pumping up to 400 gallons per minute if needed as the town plans for growth and emergencies. The project began four years ago under El Musser with state approval in 1957, and water from the new well will be dominated per state ruling. The existing wells will continue to be used as needed.

Christmas party set for Dec 20

Annual Christmas party sponsored by the Rittman Recreation Advisory Council will be held on December 20. Santa Claus will greet children age 12 and under at the Fire Station at 6:30 PM and distribution of a Christmas treat will follow. Tickets will be available at local grade schools and at the Fire Station for non school children. parents may pick up preschool tickets at the event. The party, Halloween, and Easter Eye Hunt are organized by a council of 20 local clubs and organizations including Entre Nous, Three Arts, Chamber of Commerce, Mothers Club, Rotary, Grandmothers Club, PTA, and more. The council and firemen will meet December 19 at 7 PM at Diversion Hall to pack boxes.

Gas rate hike sought by East Ohio Gas in Doylestown

East Ohio Gas Co asked for a 12 rate increase in Doylestown effective May 1980. Six months notice to cancel its current contract was delivered to Council last week. The village and the firm lacked a cancel clause, and negotiations may begin after the company resolves a similar Akron request.

Local library hosts Christmas story hour Saturday

The Rittman Public Library will hold a story hour on Saturday December 13 from 1:30 to 2:30. Christmas tales will be told and displays of gifts from other lands will be featured with Mrs Avery Kinch as storyteller.
