The Rittman Press hosts a weekly subscription race as voters crowd the standings with Mrs Ed Wheeler leading followed by Roudabush and Rizer. Workers frantically push for three year subs to reach 125000 votes, with prizes and the grand award set for January 31.
The Milton Presbyterian Church recently dedicated its new church building with ceremonies and receptions. Events included Reminiscence Night with speakers from nearby churches, a tribute to early church members, and a premier organ concert by Carl Schoman.
A scoreboard line lists Alice Marble Harry Helfelman Dale Winship Theodore Burbage Foster Baker Walter Roudabush and several women including Mrs Ed Wheeler Mrs Carl Rizer Mrs Nerle Amstutz and Vera Griner reflecting a social or sporting event lineup.
A basketball squad from Rittman, formed of top local players including B D Willer, Sheets, Ritter and Kurtz, will represent the American Legion. They open the season against West Salem on Thursday at the new high school gym, with a 7:00 o clock tipoff and 25 cent admission.
Datis Johnson of Seville marked his 81st birthday with family at home then traveling to Cleveland for further celebration. He is father to Harry Bert Ensign Johnson of Wooster and Mrs Calvin Swangler and Mrs Shumaker of Seville. Twenty six grandchildren and great grandchildren attended. two grandchildren Stella Snyder and L V Johnson of Los Angeles could not attend.
The office will issue all editions on Wednesdays instead of Thursdays starting this date. Advertisers are urged to submit Christmas ads early this week if possible no later than Monday. The change also applies to Proas as well.
The WC T U plans a Wednesday evening December 17 gathering on North Flirat with Mrs. Aaron Wolfe as delegate. Instead of the usual program, echoes from the recent Chicago golden jubilee convention will be shared, and all members urged to attend.
Judge T W Orr of Orrville in Wayne county announces candidacy for minority floor leader as the House prepares to convene. Democrats plan their caucus on December 18 to decide whether Orr or another member will hold the post.
The WRK A's elected officers for the coming year during a Tuesday meeting. Officers include Com. Mrs Ossie Snyder, Mrs Elizabeth Rudd, Mrs Hannah Wells, and others with Mrs Cora Prenneman named as Reporter. The next regular meeting is set for Tuesday December 16.
Many focal items were omitted last week and locals were placed on pages other than the local page. This was due to increased advertising. Items appear this week as they are of local interest. We regret any omissions and unnecessary inconvenience.
Miss Vera Carnes, formerly of Rittman and now a resident of Orrville, appears in the WO. M L. Orrville presentation of Kentucky Sue on Tuesday and Wednesday. The production is directed by Attis Fanwick of Akron and Carnes performs an intricate and beautiful ballet dance.
Judge W N Crow heard several matters in Aldersburg area while Judge Starn was away. Among four divorce cases Henry J Blough was granted a divorce from Florence Blough on grounds of gross neglect of duty. Blough resided in Rittman prior to action.
Petitions circulated in Rittman and Wadsworth for a direct inter county road to connect Akron and Wooster. J J Fisher delivered documents to Wayne County officials who will consult with Moding County and seek state aid under inter county road statutes. The 138 foot paved highway would run from Ohlowave and the Erie rail intersection north past Custard Hook to Wadeworth, with construction planned next year.
The school children and the American Legion of Rittman plan to deliver toys to the Wayne County Orphans Home on Christmas Eve. They collect toys from attic donations and ask the public to contribute a doll train of cars horn or any little toy. Donations can be given to the school children or brought to the Legion Rooting on Saturday December 20 1924 at 7 PM.
The auction committee reports a much better sale than the previous year with stock and household articles bringing good prices. Merchants did solid business. Next Tuesday the regular meeting and feast at the Evergreen will be held with Mr. Hugh Diamond of Galion as speaker. Be there.
The directors of The Rittman Savings Bank visit The Federal Reserve Bank and Union Trust Co. in Cleveland. They obtain valuable information through the visit.
Irving Reddinger of Marshallville Ohio reports a two car crash on the old Portage road last Sunday evening. His near new Ford coupe collided with a northbound Chevrolet while Zimmerman’s sorters faced south. Damages estimated at about 250 dollars. The Ford is under repair at Fredrick garage.
The son of Mr and Mrs O F Jones, a student at Ashland College, was honored by the Lefties an honorary literary society. Mr O F Jones is a teacher at the local AA school and his son recently distinguished himself.
In the Rittman Press circulation drive a coupon offers 100 free votes. The notice states a man instructed readers to cast 100 votes for his wife, described as Miss or Mrs. in a reported exchange after December 13.
