The Origin of Chrismons in Danville Virginia
The Chrismon tree tradition began in 1959 at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Danville Virginia, credited to Frances K Spencer. Inspired by home decorations and Mary’s Christmas, she adopted white and gold Chrismons to symbolize purity and majesty, and to honor Christ. The tree was enhanced with original Chrismons after research and drawings were found, and a church program titled The Child We Honor discussed their meanings.
