Ten guests gathered at Mr and Mrs A A Shook’s Salt Street home to honor Harvey Shook on his wedding. the couple received a new electric table lamp as a gift from Rev R I Platter after a hosted evening of refreshments and congratulations. Mrs Minnie Derr of Akron faces trial December 12 for allegedly throwing concentrated acid at her husband in their Akron home.
A reader letter alleges residents cannot leave the city without Vern control. It claims passes via Erie B&O or Ford routes require Verns like Mr Vern odor, Mr Vern Stout, and Mr Vern Fredrick, accusing the scheme of Sherman anti trust violation.
A receiver was appointed for the Excel Rubber Company of Wadsworth to determine and straighten its financial status. Fiat National Bank assistant cashier Bo Irwin was named receiver by Probate Judge Van Deusen of Medina County. In the mayor's court Timothy Halukvich alias Tom Hal ech was arrested for drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He pleaded guilty, paid a $5000 fine and costs, then left town, as the mayor expands actions against offenders to stamp out vice in Ri teman.
The high school basketball team opened the season with a 24 to 0 victory over the alumni. Referee Frank Snyder drew no protests as players wore new uniforms and displayed a strong effort. Brown, Jonda, Hardgrove, Conley, Sheets, Ritter, and Kurtz were highlighted for solid play. The second game in the series is slated for Friday December 9 at the H 8 gym with both sides eager for victory.
Mary Hrivnak sues Louie Obaditz a milk wagon operator over a January collision on Rittman street. Hrivnak says she suffered permanent injuries including scarring disfigurement and seeks 31000 in damages. Karl Hoover represents the plaintiff.

A Thursday morning crash at the Sterling avenue crossing involved Erie train number and George Patton's milk truck laden with about 1000 gallons. The trucker escaped injury, while the locomotive hurled the vehicle far from the tracks. This marks the third barge truck struck at the crossing in two years, raising safety concerns and a proposed new street to improve access into Rittman.

Laura Heinig married Kenneth H. Close at the bride's home in Millersburg Ohio. Heintig, a bookkeeper for the M W O telephone company, is well known in Rittman and Hillman. Close, formerly with the telephone company, now serves as a Federal Revenue collector. Rittman friends extend congratulations and best wishes for happiness and prosperity.
The Wilting Workers class of the 1 B Sunday school met in the church parlor on Wednesday. A strong spirit of fellowship and an enjoyable program were presented by members and friends. Plans were made to collect old clothes for the poor. Mrs N D led with the teacher’s tireless efforts praised.
The Lady Maccabees held a K of P hall meeting Tuesday electing officers led by Commander Mrs Matz and Lt Commander Mrs Strawser. Installation planned January 3 with program and outside assistance, including Spada’s Grocery, to support the event.
The Reneration era of Rattan range notes a November meeting with Near East Relief contributions to Ezra Steiner for headquarters. A December special meeting prepares to confer four new members in degrees one to four and an open Christmas program. Officers are elected and a social hour featured recitations, songs, and a spelling contest. a Thanksgiving feast is planned for the next session.
Tuesday evening a well attended meeting convened in the Howard A Ball Post rooms to perfect a new Ladies Auxiliary to the American Legion. The organization was completed with a full slate of officers.
In Wooster this week subpoenas were issued for the trial of Trippeer against Hershey and Rohrer. Trippeer seeks 2000 dollars for damages alleging the firm failed to furnish material for a Salt-st paving job, causing contract termination and loss. Proceedings expected to last more than a day with further details later.
