The Rittman Shopper ad overstated Kelvinator refrigerator sales claiming 15,000 units sold. The Kelvinator firm reports a corrected total of 15,000,000 units sold and the ad error is acknowledged in this week’s Rittman Press edition.

Frick Memorial Parsonage Dedication Next Sunday

The dedication of the Frick Memorial Parsonage at Sterling EUB Church is set for Sunday, September 10 at 2:30 pm. Dr E P Eberle will officiate, assisted by Rev Lewis Frees, with open house following and many church members contributing time and labor.

Problems of Dirt Confront Councilmen

City council faces a dirty session as City Manager Charles Mann seeks permission for Pacific Construction to obtain over 2000 yards of dirt for a new sewage plant addition. Some councilors fear the nearby lake could raise city liability in a drought-prone area.

Anthony Puccio 9 Is Buried

Anthony Puccio 9 died after a monthlong illness at his home on Front Street. Services were held at St Ann’s Church with Rev Dennis Farr officiating. Born in Partinico Italy, he came to Cleveland in 1907, moved to Rittman in 1909, and lived there 52 years. He worked for Morton Salt until retirement and for Ohio Boxboard during World War II. Wife Rose died in 1921. Survived by daughters Antionette Balloon and Eva la of Italy, son Salvatore of Italy, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Burial in church cemetery. Rosary recited Sunday at Gillman-Haines Funeral Home.

Hont For Mrs Moore Continues

Rittman police pursue leads in the search for 19 year old Thelma Moore missing from Bauman Street since August 14. A reported sighting near Seville proved false. Police stay in touch with Cleveland authorities as they investigate a woman’s body washed ashore identified later as 49 year old Marion Russell of Lakewood. The search for Mrs Moore continues.

Services Held For Charles Steele 80

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Charles Franklin Steele 80 who died last Thursday evening at his home 275 Sterling Ave where he had lived since 1949 He farmed in Westfield Two and was born in Medina County He is survived by his wife Elian deth Smith Steck five children Kenneth of Rittman Weldon and Elton of Creston RD Mrs Carl Farner of Rittman and Mrs Elbert Wilma Nadine Leanhier of Louisville one percent grandchil dren two great grandchildren three brothers Jacob of Homerville Henry of Lodi and Monroe of Creston RD a sister Mary Ann Steele of Medina Rev John J Williams officiated at services in the Creston Church of God He was interred in Miple Mound Cemetery Arrangements were by Murray Funeral Home in Cres ton

Drive-In Jail Update At City Hall

The Police Department moved offices to the basement to ease processing. A driveway near the cells allows quicker unloading of arrestees, a new convenience adopted this week at City Hall.

Peterman Named New Rittman Basketball Coach

Wes Peterman is chosen as the Rittman High School basketball coach for the coming season by the Board of Education on the recommendation of Superintendent W H Havnenstein. The 34 year old replaces Ashton Hall who served 17 years. Peterman, in the district eight years, also coaches baseball and assists football. He previously taught at Union Local High School in Coshocton County. He lives on Route 604 with his wife Pat and five children. The board also hired Donald Ritchie as freshman basketball coach and Homer Pyle as junior high coach. A new bus contract was awarded to Harold Hoover at 9000 dollars per year after a study showed the old 8000 dollar contract did not break even. Hoover owns and maintains the district buses.

Doylestown Men Freed on Firearm Charge in Wooster Court

Acting Judge Walter J. Monger freed Robert Oxley and Billy Gene Higgins of South Portage Street from charges accusing them of intentionally discharging a firearm toward a person. The case stemmed from an affidavit by Arlene Galehouse of RD Doylestown.

Doylestown Band Camps For First Time

The 35 member Doylestown marching unit attended a weeklong camp led by director Bruce Lenno at a Methodist Church camp northwest of Doylestown. Practices ran eight and a half hours daily with a 10 minute hourly break. Camp started 6 30 am and lights went out at 10 30 pm. The Band Mothers Club funded rentals and details for this first time camp.

Treasurer Parker To Be Sworn In At Court Ceremony

Ethel Mills Parker, newly elected Wayne County Treasurer, will be sworn in Friday. The former Rittmanite succeeds Ben Mellvaine, who held the post for 24 years after Parker unseated a longtime Democrat in the Ohio GOP upset. The term begins with the next fiscal year, with the ceremony set for 10 am in Judge Adrian Miller’s courtroom.

Packaging Corporation stock listed on NYSE and Midwest Exchange

Packaging Corporation of America common stock began trading on both the New York Stock Exchange and the Midwest Exchange. The issue, ticker PKG, shows an active start with executive committee members present. The firm says it operates 52 plants including mills and container plants and is among the nation’s larger diversified pulp and paper board makers.

Services Saturday For Miss Petit

Funeral services for Pearl A Petit, 76, of South First Street, Wooster, are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St Anns Catholic Church. The Rev Fr Dennis Farrett will officiate. Burial follows at St Anns Cemetery. Miss Petit, born in Moor Township, died Thursday at Hort Nursing Home after a long illness. She worked for Ontario Steel Company for 47 years. A brother, Aaron Gilman, survives. Haines Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
