Parking committees to discuss off street lot feasibility

The Parking Committee and Chamber explore a vacant lot south of City Hall for an off street parking area. A proposed retaining wall could total about a thousand dollars with additional costs for grading and marking. Chamber directors favor the plan if early vehicles justify the expense. Water Survey Plans For Rittman Under Consideration

Two proposals on the cost of a water supply survey for Rittman are to be submitted to Council Monday night. Bur gess and Niple of Columbus discussed the plan and will present an estimate, while Jones-Henry and Williams of Toledo will also propose. The study will assess water potential, economical sources, and feasible sites for additional supply as Wadsworth begins a similar survey with Burgess and Nister.

Wayne County Fair opens Monday afternoon at 3 pm at the Wayne County Fair Grounds in Wooster for a six day run through Saturday night. The exposition showcases agriculture and industry with eighteen large buildings and tents. major farm implement dealers participate making it one of the state’s largest shows. Dining facilities by the Grangers and Nadelin’s Restaurant plus a Turkey tent and doughnut stand attract crowds while entertainment includes Wild Animal Show and Hurricane Hell Drivers in a bid to boost family attendance.

Progress Report on Sewage Plant at Rittman

City Manager Charles Mann reports the Rittman Sewage Plant expansion is near the approved schedule. Pacific Construction Co of Akron has until December 1 to finish. Overall plant is 30 percent complete as of September 1 with digestor 45 percent, screen house 10 percent, sludge holding tanks 35 percent, and sludge drying beds you. Work on a section is delayed due to contractor focus on other items and a shortage of fit dirt.

City officials led by City Manager Charles Mann aimed to drive starlings from the town using shotguns cherry bombs and roman candles. The operation continued through the week with police and street department staff pursuing birds from tree to tree and planning four more nights of action to clear the birds.
