The W C T U held its regular meeting in Rittman City Park on Tuesday August 17 with Mrs Chas Flickin presiding. Officers elected for the coming year were Mrs T B Lewis President Grace Davy Vice President G W Clouse Secretary A F Wolfe Treasurer L L Toland Superintendent of flower mission and Mrs J E Hanes Prex Reporter.discussion covered various topics including aiding the wet and dry campaign and securing temperance speaker Ammon of Atlanta.
The twenty-fifth annual county convention at West Salem featured Frances Fuller as guest of honor. She spoke on deceptive wet-literature tactics and warned groups about hidden alcohol-promoting agendas and counterfeit temperance campaigns.
County Auditor Charles Fahr reported progress on a county tax rate tour per the Wooster Republic, covering roughly half the areas. Thirteen districts have fixed rates, with Creston and West Salem showing about 15 mills. West Salem school repairs cost 1000 dollars. The 31st Amstutz reunion drew about 140 guests to C. Il Ahl’s Barbert on Wednesday August 18. Attendees enjoyed a famed Amstutz dinner and a strong program with speeches by Rev Givens of Barberton’s UB church J B Amstutz Daniel Steiner of Sterling NS Amtutz of Valparaiso and Jacob Amstutz of Sterling who chaired the event.
The twentieth Shook family reunion gathered at City Park, Rattuvan, on Thursday August 19 with about 150 attendees. Officers elected for the next year include W.R. Shook as president and Edith Coolman as secretary, and the group set the 1916 reunion for the third Saturday in August at Rothman City Park.
The Gleveland and Ohio Central Electric Railway Company notes growing interest in the proposed electric line. Wadsworth and Rittman show now a real attitude toward the project, with plans developing that hint at eventual success, making Rittman a more prominent stop in the chain.
The carnival in Rittman was postponed from last Saturday to this Saturday. Creston Sterling and the Hobo band will perform if weather permits. Women are urged to bring cakes for the bake sale and locals of all ages are invited to enjoy the park event.
