Bitiman Chautauqua Opens With Big Attendance Hopes

A meeting of chautauqua organizers in The Kittman Savings Bank planned the 1924 event opening Monday. Redpath Bureau brings E G Mason as platform manager. Junior ticket hunts, advance ticket sales, and reserved seats at Harper’s Drug Store Saturday morning were announced.

Mrs. Hattie Johnson of Rittman by attorney Daniel C. Funk files for divorce from Melvin Johnson alleging extreme cruelty and neglect. Married June 4 1902 in Bexilis they have one daughter now married. She seeks alimony in addition to the divorce.

Council Meeting Adopts Fifth Street Savering Resolution

The council met in regular session with all members present except Mr Branigan. The mayor and clerk were in their places. A resolution amending prior law on Fifth Street savering and the regular pay ordinance were approved.

New County School Superintendent Assumes Office

A county school superintendent, whose formal office began August 1, assumed duties this week Monday. He had been away for study and could begin active duties only this week. Since the death of Mr Baumgårdner, Ass't Supt A M Henderson has undertaken charge of all county school affairs.

U. S. and State Plan Survey to Aid Ohio Highways

Ohio officials announce a joint traffic and transportation survey with the U S Bureau of Public Roads to measure traffic on the state highway system and guide planning. Director Boulay says the study will establish traffic principles and assess highway development needs with federal funding likely covering half the cost.

County Primaries Result With County Ticket Selections

All precincts in the county have been tabulated and the candidates for the November county ticket named. Democrats list FE Bucher as Commissioner and Florence Limb as Treasurer among others, while Republicans name G Jlbright and O V. Gardner for Commissioner and J McSweaney for Congress, with several other offices filled and some unopposed.

A license to wed was issued Friday in Wayne County Probate Court to James Busakos and Mary Bortos, both of Rittman. The Greek family members listed as contracting parties have their home in Rittman for some time.

Orchard Day Draws Hundreds to Ohio Experiment Station

Between 600 and 800 visitors attended the Ohio Experiment Station orchard day last Friday. The event, supervised by the department of horticulture, featured an afternoon tour of the station orchard with hundreds of fruit varieties on display and several large commercial orchard growers in attendance.

New Intercounty Road 529 to Relieve Dixie Highway

The Division of Highways announces a new Intercounty Highway ICH No.529 from Fostoria to Millbury. Officials say it will relieve Dixie Highway traffic and shorten Columbus Toledo distance by about 20 miles once completed.

Sterling Man Drives Wild Barberton Chase Ends With Fines

Guy Parks of Sterling and Clarence Beichter led Barberton police on a Saturday chase across Easton after a car crash spree damaging eight vehicles. Parks faced multiple fines for reckless driving and intoxicated driving. Beichter was held for intoxication.

Three Car Crashes Injure Fifteen Near Wooster

Over the weekend three automobile accidents near Wooster injured fifteen people and damaged six cars. The most serious crash occurred Sunday at the north edge of Bloomington around 10 a.m. Two crashes happened on the CCC highway one seven miles north of Wooster Saturday night and the other on Sunday on West Liberty street in Wooster.

Return from a two week motor trip

Mr and Mrs F B Snyder returned last Thursday from a two week motor trip that covered Wisconsin and Michigan. They visited Chicago and attended the Photographers Association of America held in Milwaukee. They traveled from Milwaukee to Mackinaw City and crossed the state toward their Michigan home.

Lighted Match Sparks Barn Fire Killing Kittens Near Shreve

James Campbell, four, of southwest Shreve, set a lighted match near a kitten nest in his family barn. The resulting blaze consumed the straw and damaged crops, but the livestock escaped in pasture as the barn burned.

Martal Mills and Deputies Raid Liquor Law Violators

Marasal Mills and deputies raided a White City home Saturday night and arrested the keeper and a boarder for liquor violations. The keeper was fined 200 and costs, the boarder 100 and costs. Both claimed inability to pay and suggested Canton Workhouse. mayor warned more arrests may follow.

Andre Meese Nuptials at Chippewa Township Ceremony

At noon August 12 a wedding was held at the Ira Meese home in Chippewa Township with Rev. I H Stetler of Doylestown uniting Ralph Andre and Marguerite Meese. The couple, from respected local families, planned to reside near Easton and began a motor trip to Niagara Falls and New York after the ceremony.

County Parties Face New Leadership Selections

The county central committees of the Republican and Democratic parties must meet within fifteen days after the election to choose an executive committee and a county chairman. The current Republican chairman is B. L. Landes of Washington, D C, and the Democratic chairman is Elmer Seldner, secretary to Congressman John McSweeney, who splits time in New York.

Wooster voters show Judge Ross Funk leading rival William J. Laud by a total of 9 436 votes across four counties in the district race for the court of appeals. Funk carried Summit Medina Lorain and Wayne with varying majorities, strongest in Lorain. The Wooster Daily Record notes the August 13 timing and district results.

Auto Crash on Main Street Ends with Damaged Cars

On Saturday night a Tulek touring car driven by a Gardner from the town and an Overland touring car driven by Joe Knowiton collided near the John J. Kunkel residence on Main Street. Both cars were damaged and unable to be moved. Each driver blamed the other, and both went to the Mayor. The Mayor suspected one driver had been drinking while the other had poor brakes.
