Commander Willard Smith of Rittman's auxiliary police called a meeting Wednesday night for a special showing of civilian defense moving pictures by Lieutenant Engelhart and Wilbur Eshelman of the Akron police department. Monday night the police are invited to gain some more experience in direction of traffic by assisting in Akron during the evening shopping hours, 7 to 9. The men will go in a group. There is also a standing invitation for the men to work in Akron's police cruisers, two at a time.

Two air plant workers killed in Smithville auto boxcar crash
Jay Calvin Atland aged 40 of Wooster and Glenn Jacot aged 30 of Shreve were killed early Saturday when their car stalled at a Wheeling and Lake Erie crossing at Smithville and drove under a standing boxcar. Relatives said overtime work at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron kept them late. time of death about 3:40 a.m. The auto was crushed, and the coroner said both died instantly from multiple injuries after being jammed under the car. Fog hampered the morning traffic while responders extricated the vehicle.
