Vernon Reeder announced practice sessions for the fall marching season. The first session runs Monday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. no instruments needed and former band members still in school are invited to try out. A drill team is planned to perform at one or seven games and will mirror Kilgore College summer routines.
Willie Selbee was fined 100 dollars and costs with 80 dollars suspended and placed on one year probation after pushing Miss Lillian Clark from a five foot stool in the Rittman Houses. The charge arose when the fall injures Clark’s arm. Conditions require Selbee to avoid Miss Clark’s pool room and stay out of trouble for a year.
Paul Erb of Rittman narrowly missed advancing from the first round, finishing second in a three car heat on the 915 foot Akron track. He trailed the eventual ninth place finisher by inches as the cars crossed the line in 28 seconds. Erb received gifts including a trophy and a bicycle for his Wayne County and All American participation, with sponsorship noted from local outlets but no hometown designation in the program.
Rittman s Explorer Scout Post hosts a donkey baseball game at 7 p.m. Tickets cost 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children under twelve. Proceeds fund a planned camping trip next summer. Tickets are sold by Explorer Scouts and at the gate.
Medford H. Jones of the Jones Keister team will headline a week of evangelistic services at First Church of Christ starting Sunday August 21. Minister D T R McLean says the campaign will climax on Decision Day Sunday August 28 with 30 members sought. Evening services run 7 30 pm daily through Sept 1 except Aug 22 and 23 with afternoon programs for children August 24 26 starting 1 80 pm.
The 1955 Rittman Recreation Park program ends Friday August 26 with a field day at Rittman High School football field. Start at 1 30 p m and include races relays and contests for children age four to 14. Prizes for winners and guidance by Mrs. James Black and Lynn Castor, city recreation director.
Betty Gillespie and David Sholar will be crowned king and queen of the Rittman Mardi Gras Friday at 7 p.m. on the square. A six year old pair Jimmie Keister and Joyce Taylor will be named prince and princess. The parade features a royal carriage and a band from the high school. Judges will award prizes near $100 in multiple categories.
Thirty three Rittman high school boys turned out for physical exams ahead of football season. Ten lettermen are out with a class breakdown of six seniors twelve juniors eight sophomores and seven freshmen. Practice begins Saturday behind RC Can Ce on Industrial Street with two daily sessions at 9 am and 3 pm.
A Young Married Couples group in Rittman will hold a corn roast at Rittman Central Park on Saturday evening, August 24 at 8 30. Attendees are asked to bring corn and soft drinks. Hosts are Mr and Mrs Warren Keister and Mr and Mrs Melvin Iles.
Ohio Boxboard employees faced disciplinary measures after an unauthorized August 10 strike in the gluing department. About 12 workers are believed involved, with suspensions and one dismissal reported. one source cites a 30 day suspension. A photographer covering the scene was threatened but not harmed as police intervened and picket lines withdrew.
Plans set for the Red Cross Bloodmobile to operate August 24 at the American Legion Home East Sunset Drive in Rittman from 11 am to 5 pm. Transportation and volunteer committees, led by Mrs. s W Bodager and Mr Clarence Kunkler, coordinate donor recruitment, canteen luncheon, and nurse volunteers for the Gallon Club drive with area volunteers from Doylestown Sterling Creston and Akron.

Secretary of State Ted Brown issues a corporation charter for the OCO Transportation Company in Rittman with F. O. Kanehl as statutory agent. Incorporators are J. N. Ebright G. W. Rooney and Esther Coorsh. Authorized to issue 250 shares of no par common stock.
Police Chief Charles Heffelman warned Rittman high school students this week that initiations of freshmen will not be tolerated. He noted complaints from parents about painting freshmen with nail polish and minor torture, and said participants can be arrested and fined up to 50 dollars plus costs.
Miss Dolores Trogdon was elected president of the Rittman High School Recreation Council at a Trogdon home meeting. Officers named: Donna Bordacs vice president Elizabeth West secretary Loretta Beery treasurer. Committee chairs decorations Kenneth West posters Tiny Whims refreshments Elizabeth West. Plans were made for an acquainted dance after the preview football game on September 9.
The Rittman High School Student Council will hold a paper drive Friday August 19. Papers should be ready for pickup in the afternoon. if not tied the students will collect them. All high school students wishing to help are asked to be at the high school at 1 p.m.
Funeral services were held at Gillman Funeral Home for Leonard Lance 87 of 83 West Hill Ave who died Sunday in Rosey Rae Rest Home Seville after a brief illness He was the last survivor of a Rittman pioneer family a Milton Presbyterian Church member and longtime civic participant He is survived by his widow Mary and daughter Gail Rev George Culp officiated Burial was in Pioneer Memorial Cemetery in Rittman
Graveside services and burial were held Monday morning in Rittman cemetery for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Perry of 120 Medina Street Rittman who died in Akron City Hospital shortly after birth. Besides her parents she is survived by four sisters Wilma Sharon Doris and Lois two brothers Oscar Lee and Donald all at home her maternal grandfather A F Brumfield of Kenova West Virginia and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Harlan Perry of Salt Street Rittman.
Rittman High School class of 1948 will hold their annual reunion in the small pavilion at Rittman Central Park Sunday August 21 at 5 p.m. DST. Members should bring a covered dish and table service for their families. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Plahuta are in charge of arrangements.
Sister of local residents dies after brief illness in West Virginia. Funeral held Tuesday at Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church Morton Ohio with Rev Walter Stark officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Survived by four daughters and four sons, plus many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
