Mardi Gras Planned by Rittman Recreation Board
Plans are underway for the Fifth Annual Mardi Gras in Rittman with a Friday August parade at 7 pm downtown. A King and Queen aged six will be chosen by public vote from area residents, with ballots printed in this paper and due by 5 pm Monday. Judges include Lynn Castor and Mrs. James Black. voting requires one vote per person.

New “Gallon Club” Donors Sought for Rittman Blood Drive
Twenty new members expected to join the exclusive Gallon Club as the Red Cross Bloodmobile comes to Rittman August 24 at the American Legion Hall Sunset Ave. Donor hours run 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers will line up donors and set appointments. Six prizes per category and cameras for Miss and Mister Rittman winners. Prizes displayed next week at Rittman Hardware window.

Rittman All Stars to join invitational tournament
The Rittman Hot Stove All Stars join four teams Wadsworth Medina Barberton in a single elimination invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Each lineup allows eighteen players two umpires and two balls per game. Rittman will have Ray Seat and Lynn Castor as umpires with Jim Pereira heading managerial duties.

Rittman Schools Plan New Class and Land Use
The Rittman Board proposes admitting at least three students to a special class at Sterling school to start this year. They approved acquiring 20 acres of land for $30,000 from Mr. and Mrs. Ben Saurer to support an elementary school on the east portion. The district schedules a Sept. 7 start, sets lunch prices, adjusts teaching assignments, and plans building and planning steps with Kent State’s Dr. Gerald Reid guiding a teacher workshop.

Board of Ed Auctions Two Homes for Land Expansion
The Rittman Board of Education sold two houses and two garages at auction to obtain land for high school expansion. Charles Heffelman bought the Bauman residence for 2100 dollars and two car garage for 120. Merle Heffelman paid 950 for the Rodenberg residence and its one car garage. Heffelman will move his house to 166 N Main and Frey will relocate his home to Fairlawn Ave. Purchases must be moved within 45 days per agreement.

All American Soap Box Derby Sunday in Akron
Paul Erb son of Mr and Mrs Robert Erb of N Main St will race among about 150 contestants in the All American Soap Box Derby in Akron Sunday. He won the Wayne County Race recently. Tickets cost 50 cents 1.00 and 1.50 and are sold through the Wooster Daily Record office the Good Humor ice cream wagon in Rittman or at Derby Downs gate on race day.

Texas Judge to Hear Boyes Case in El Paso This Week
Robert and Trent Boyes formerly of Rittman are set to appear before a federal judge in El Paso Texas this week. They were captured July 13 near El Paso and charged with three bank robberies including the Stebbins National Bank of Creston on May 24.
