Negotiation Session Set Friday By PCA and Union

Packaging Corporation of America officials and the negotiation committee of the Brotherhood of Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers will continue sessions Friday at 10 30 am. The announcement was made Thursday by Federal Mediator Edward O'Brien. In a separate matter three Rittman men were arraigned on assault charges following an attack on East Ohio Avenue. Ramsier Hess and Salisbury pleaded innocent. case certified to Wooster Municipal Court. Police hired additional officers after disturbances near the plant and a painting incident targeted a company member's car raised by PCA employees.

Thomas Polize Dies at 70 in Ohio

Services were held for Thomas Polize at St Ann's Catholic Church. The Rittman resident, 70, died after a short illness at his home on Monday. He worked 27 years at the Ohio Boxboard Company mill division, retiring in 1958, and was born in Borgetto Italy arriving in 1912. He leaves Nina his wife a daughter Vida Tasker of Rittman a son Joseph of Wadsworth a brother Samuel of Italy and two grandchildren. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Rev Fr Dennis Farr officiating. Gillman-Haines Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mardi Gras Parade and White Elephant Sale Planned

Rittmanites residents will enjoy a double treat next Friday night with the annual Mardi Gras parade at 6 30 p m from Diversion Hall to the square where Mayor O A Houglan will crown the king and queen. Prizes for best costumes and floats follow at Diversion Hall. The Booster Club also runs its White Elephant Sale with many nearly new items up for bid. Booster President Sam Schwarskoph and Homer Pyle invite donations at 925-5311 and 925-2225.

Imperial Terrace motel to rise on N State Street

William Davis Jr announces a $100000 plus project on State Street near East Ohio. The Imperial Terrace will include eight rooms a large medical office and a smaller business office overlapped by stilts above a 16 car parking area. Ground breaking planned next month with occupancy aimed for spring.

Mrs Schindler Tops Prize Winners At Carni Fair

Mrs Hazel Schindler won a dishwasher and the $100 attendance prize at the Carni Fair Saturday evening. Dorothy Johnson won a bicycle at the Saturday matinee, Sid Burton claimed the AM-FM radio, and C Shilling took a tank-type sweeper. Robert Steiner won the garbage disposal. prize winners need not be present to win. About $4,300 was taken in during the five day festival. profits go to Rittman Firemen Lions Club and American Legion along with community project funds.

Board Assists Rittman Schools With Athletic Costs

The Rittman School Board heard that the Rittman Athletic Association will cover 760 in football insurance fees and 6.40 for start of school fees, leaving 8 for student payment. The association may obtain a bus for player transport. a bus turnout plan at West Hill was tabled.

Open Meeting Tuesday To Discuss Rittman Planning

City seeks resident input on long range planning including water, sewage, zoning, streets, fire and police protection, capital improvements, and other services. City Manager Charles Mann says Vogt Ivers and Associates will explain the program. meeting at City Hall 8 p.m. Tuesday. A September community attitude survey will be conducted by the high school government class under Ashton Hall.

United Fund Adds Children Cancer Groups in Rittman

The Wayne County Handicapped Children Association and the Damon Runyan Cancer Fund were added to the United Foundation roster. UF President C E Rhonemus announced the agency list is now complete alongside American Red Cross, Rittman Community Fund, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Wayne County Guidance Center, Little League, and the Salvation Army.
