Residents Debate Naming W First and W Second Streets

Open invitation to residents of W First Street and W Second Street to attend the August 27 council meeting to discuss proposed street renamings. Petitions against changes were presented by representatives claiming all adults on the streets signed. The council also authorized sewer work plans and budget actions, including an auxiliary storm sewer and a pipe extension with projected costs up to 1200 dollars and 250 dollars respectively.

Miss Hattie Sigler operator of a Rittman hotel sues Lloyd A Lemonin executor of the Anna Petit estate for 6160 claimed compensation for care of Mrs Petit and 134 for use of a room for her personal effects after death.

World Service Group meets after V J Day service

Milton Presbyterian Church World Service Group met at Mrs Basil Hardgrove's home after the V J Day church service Tuesday evening. Fourteen members and one guest Miss Lucille Kreider attended with program led by Mrs C B Shook.

BOWLERS EYE OFFICIAL PLAY FOR FALL LEAGUE

About 50 members of Rittman's summer bowling league joined a mammoth chicken dinner at Smithville Inn as tentative plans emerged to start the fall and winter play as an American Bowling Congress affiliated group. Dick Allen of the Wadsworth Bowling Association outlined rules and organization. Fred Kamp and Carl Adams were named as officers. Jerry Spaulding announced a captain and sponsor meeting for late August.

Rotary Discusses Veterans Employment

Rotary club held its third discussion on the veterans problem led by Tom Young of Ohio Boxboard Co. personnel. Guests included Robert Mainurm of Orrville draft board No 2, Walter Phillips of the War Manpower Commission Akron, and Lester Hammer of the US Employment Service Akron. The talk noted Rittman lacks a veterans information center and a re employment committee member for the draft board.

Rittman Autoist Hurt When Car Is Ditched

Steve Vignovich of Rittman was seriously injured when the car he drove was ditched and wrecked on Route 94 north of Orrville early Sunday. He was picked up at 12 44 a m by a Greyhound bus driver and taken to Meeson Hospital in Wooster.

High School Office Opens for Fall Registration

Principal W. H. Hauenstein will be in the high school office starting Wednesday August 22. Students may register or change class schedules in person from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. He will remain in the office daily until school opens.

Steiner Suffers Stroke in Milton Township

C. J. Steiner, 60, of N Main Street, Milton Township trustee chairman and Rittman mail messenger, showed signs of slight improvement after a stroke early Tuesday. He could not rise at dawn, could not speak, and was found paralyzed on his right side by his wife.

Rittmanites Welcome Wartime Relaxations

Local residents welcomed a set of wartime policy relaxations including the end of rationing for gasoline fuel oil and canned foods. The measures also include removal of manpower controls allowing easier hiring, a reduced draft to 50 000 monthly, faster Army discharges and a Navy point system promising 6 million released in a year, and increased automobile production with controls on refrigerators radios and appliances lifted.

Two-Day Vacation Follows V J News in Rittman

Residents across the Rittman area extended Victory Day celebrations into a second day with factories closed until Friday morning and all other services following the double holiday. The town became a ghost town Wednesday while shops and offices stayed shut, and a bonfire on the Square drew crowds as churches held prayers and gas lines surged to meet demand.
