37 Hopefuls Out for Rittman Football Season

Coach George Allarding fields 37 hopefuls for the 1945 football season at Rittman high school with six lettermen among them. Key players include McConnell Wallace Van Gilder Yoder Harrod and Plahuta. Practice shifts to two-a-days as Ashbrook Kitts Milford and others miss early sessions. The squad works on two backfield units for the T formation ahead of the Sept. 14 opener with Millersburg.

Ohio Boxboard Co to honor Army Navy E award

The Ohio Boxboard Co is listed in Business Week among 414 plants awarded the Army Navy E for excellence. A Labor Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday Sept 3 invites employees and families to the plant. Ration Board Sets 8 Pound Sugar Allowance

The Rittman ration board announces 8 pounds of sugar per person now allowed, with the 15 pound family emergency ration deducted. A four person family that has used its 15 pounds can qualify for 17 pounds of new sugar. Rationing Ends as OPA Rolls Back Controls

The OPA announced that rationing of all farm implements and industrial tires ends at midnight August 21. Orders restricting plumbing and heating equipment purchases and gas usage for heating are rescinded. Gas and plumbing controls are lifted, with equipment now available to many buyers though shortages may persist. Textiles, delivery, and wage rules also ease with new benefits and programs forthcoming.

John Wenger Buys Mougey Block for New Business

John Wenger of N Third Street, former meat market owner, purchased the Mougey Block on S Main Street in Rittman from Forrest Mougey of Creston. The three story brick building, once home to Home Furniture and Gatehouse Furniture, will be renovated for a new business opening around November 1. Dwight Hoff plans an auction of remaining stock this Saturday at 3 p.m. and Wenger will add two second floor apartments with a exterior entrance while closing access to the basement.
