A large crowd attended the Ohio Injector Company opening at Wadsworth last Friday to see the new factory in operation. About 2 000 people gathered for the evening viewing and dances, with two orchestras, punch, and cakes, as teams from four Ohio companies mingled in a cooperative display.
From here many traveled to Marion for the funeral procession viewing. A few arrived late to view the body, but most observed the in state, with four local men recalling quarters shared with officers. Flowers and floral tributes totaled substantial values, and road trips by wrecked machines were noted in transit to and from Marion.
A called Democratic meeting at KHSB named a full town ticket for the November election in a town over 2000 population. The slate includes Joe Brown for mayor and six council members J H Smith Elmer Bethtel Christ Hilty John Kohler Harry Hutt A L Bbart along with FE G Newberry for clerk Clarence D Petit for assessor Wr qrechtenn for treasurer Nf D Faber for marshal J H Dowd Wm Burbage F A Smith for board of public affairs S Mealy and Charles Newman for the Board of Education Elmer W Bechtol is proposed as Milton clerk candidate.
All aboard for a Saturday picnic at Chippewa Lake Park billed as the largest Rittman event. The event features a special train from Easton, Rittman, and Sterling, broom and rolling pin contests, a tug of war with Sterling, and a 3 pm ball game between Apple Creek and the company team.
Wanda Molne of Sterling and Frank Snyder of this place wed Wednesday afternoon after obtaining a license from Judge Jones. The couple, both known locally, plan a six weeks honeymoon through New England and will settle in the Sterling area.
Marlon Prouts, formerly of Rittman, is among 21 soldiers and an officer chosen to guard the tomb housing the late President Flard ing’s body in Marion. The guard will watch the tomb for at least six months, potentially longer. Local residents met him in Marion during the funeral.
Construction has started on the Erle crossing at Main Street. The site shows improved condition and additional materials are on the ground. Upon completion the crossing is expected to be much better than in the recent past.
The Times Newsboys band drew a large crowd at the Ligier hotel Wednesday evening in Akron. The 28 boys and two older helpers performed gratuitously, aided by several influential townsmen, and their music was appreciated by those present.
Memorial services were held in the park at 4 o'clock last Friday for President Warren G Harding. A large audience gathered near the band stand with a portrait of the late president. Music included a double quartet singing his favorite hymns and Mrs Verne Gebhart singing Beautiful Isle of Somewhere. Clergy speakers included Rev Father Ouimet Rev E G Hamilton and Rev Mason with Rev Ham ion giving the scripture and invocations. Ouimet delivered the main address praising Harding's statesmanship and character. Hamilton gave the benediction.
Rittman defeated Maysville 12 to 1 at Maysville. Schaad allowed three hits and struck out nine for the winners. Rittman collected 13 hits led by Norton with three hits and two extras. One Maysville player was hit in the back of the head by a Schaad pitch and taken to Wooster hospital. Next Sunday the locals host Wooster in Rittman.
Tuesday morning Miss Esther Branigan was taken to Wadsworth Community hospital for the removal of tonsils and adenoids. During the procedure she became ill with tonsillitis which developed into quinsy. scarlet fever was thought to be improved by the operation, and the surgeons believed it would greatly relieve throat trouble. The operation was very successful and Esther returned home none the worse for the ordeal.
The new president Calvin Coolidge rode through Rittman on the Erie line to and from Marion last Friday. Spectators gathered at the depot hoping to glimpse him but he remained in his private car due to the death of his former chief. The party included many officials and on return to Washington Mrs. Harding joined the group.
The Mougey reunion occurred at Jacob Schorle’s home between Rittman and Sterling with many attendees from Akron. Ezra Kaufman joined from Akron and joked about the chicken feast inviting others to come along.
The Indies of the Altar society held a quilting at the home of Mrs John Petit last week with many members in attendance. Named attendees included Mrs Fred Burger and family Mrs Theodore Molne and daughter Mary Mrs Arthur Goffinet and daughters Lucille and Mary Mrs Gunt Petit Mrs Andy Niehter Mrs Cecelia Zigler Mrs Alphus Goffinet and three children and Mrs John Petit Visitors listed were Mrs Mary DePray Akron Mrs Peter Maine Mrs Charley Smith Mrs Jack Dibbie Mrs Toe Whitman Doylestown Mrs Franges Bair Rittman Mrs Clara Zigket Marshallville and Mr Ferdinand Mine and Wir Peter Molue of this city Mrs Alphus Goffinet president.
H A Kruckel owner of Cash Grocery has been ill for about ten days with inflammatory rheumatism and tonsillitis. He has regained strength and is back on the streets, hoping to resume regular duties.
A birthday surprise was held at William Long in Sec ondst Sunday with family and friends from Wadsworth Creston Lorain and Rittman. Dinner was served in Rittman park and attendees wished him many more happy birthdays.
In Milton township dairy cattle owners are to be visited on August 20 and 21 to sign an agreement permitting the state veterinarian to test cattle for tuberculosis. Cooperation is urged to keep the township cattle free of the disease amid Green-tp's current testing results where 25 of 760 examined reacted.
Acme No 1e opens in Rittman opposite the post office as the newest link in the Acme chain. The Akron headquarters oversees eight cash and carry stores and a bakery and cracker plant in this region. Mr Searcy will run the store with residence in Rittman, while Albrecht heads the chain and promises top bargains.
An executive order directs the flag stay at half staff on all public buildings in honor of the late President Harding. The flag may fly at half mast until the close of business Monday September 2 7928, including Sundays, and not after sunset.
A gasoline station at Imer Maurer’s was damaged when a truck owned by H. A Scott backed into it after being driven into town by a man named Johnson. The brakes released while the driver was away, sending the truck into Ebert's music store curbside stand and causing costly damage.
Jacob Lambert buys the Elliott Street property from Charles Turner this week. Lambert previously owned the property years ago before selling it about three years ago. Following his marriage to Ida Blough they chose the former home for their new residence.
Wayne county board in Wooster allocates Rittman a new precinct, No.5, covering CBio axis and north area while Precinct No.3 stays west of Main and No.4 east of Main. Mayor tallies show Orrville results with BE L Kinsey 87, Glenn Klopenstine 143. Wooster totals: M R Lib 137, Charles Williamson 111.
Two local families plan a car tour to Washington D C and eastern cities. Mr and Mrs B A Smith left Wednesday while Mr and Mrs Melvin Beachy depart Friday. The trips use different routes to enjoy scenery in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
