Rittman Council Debates Water Plan Threat Claim
At Monday’s meeting the Rittman city council faced opposition to the proposed water project with Buck Shaw labeling a clause in the ordinance a threat as it doubles minimum rates if the 2 percent income tax fails. Council members urged citizens to consider options and warned of a possible water shortage without new supply. Ed Smith pressed zoning permit enforcement while a suspect in a check irregularity was arraigned, Johnny Robert Howell, 36, held for trial after a bank alert.

Four contenders filed petitions to challenge incumbents Warren Hardgrove and Elmer Smith for three council seats in Rittman. Deloris Wright James Markley Ralph Johnson and John Dodrill seek seats. Wright former council president and first woman to hold that post. Also seeking seats for school board Robert Bodager and Melvin Beery face Jimmy Howe. Chester Haulk will be opposed by Robert Anderson for township trustee. Richard Winkler runs unopposed for clerk. Three council seats will be vacated with Muriel Jordan not running.
