Football physicals set for August 14 in First Street school

Football physicals will be given August 14 at 1 p.m. in the First Street elementary school. Sixteen lettermen lead nearly 60 players vying for berths on the Indiana team with practice to start August 19. The nine game schedule opens September 6 at a county preview in Doylestown.

Bloodmobile drive seeks donors to hit 125 pint goal

Donors are urged to sign up for the Bloodmobile visit next Wednesday at the American Legion Hall from noon to 5 PM. Over 200 pints are still needed to meet the quota. Transportation is available. Five candidates filed for the three available Rittman Board of Education seats in the November election. Mardi Gras crowns seventh annual royal couple in Rittman

David Faber and Carolyn Schumacher were chosen as king and queen for the seventh annual Mardi Gras parade in Rittman. The procession starts at 6 30 at the North Main Street recreation field, moves to the public square for crowning by Mayor John Baldwin, with attendants Amy Davis Debbie Walker Jimmy Welling and Jerry Bauman.

Rittman Schools Reopen Sept 4 With Kindergarten Sessions

Rittman schools set to open for classes on Wednesday September 4 with an estimated 112 kindergartners. A kindergarten meeting is planned for September 3 at 1 30 p m at the respective schools along with a teachers breakfast and freshmen orientation. West Hill and North Street locations will host two and one kindergarten sessions respectively. School hours begin at 8 a m with early dismissal at 3 30 p m for most grades and 3 p m for kindergarten through grade two. West Hill attendance boundaries defined by streets and areas including Meadowvale North Fifth Street Wood land Hawthorne Orchard Maple wood Hillcrest Grandview Metzger Hicken North Street Sunset Heights and surrounding rural zones served by the bus route.

Speedmeter nets seven speeders in Rittman court

Mayor Baldwin's court this week filed seven speeders after speeding fines. William Winkler Glenn Adkins John Zivick Charles Craig Wilford Gasser Charles Brant and Orville Hensley paid five dollars or ten dollars with costs. Paul Fagert faced disturbing the peace charge and paid fifty dollars plus costs. forty dollars was suspended pending damages.

Board to meet with school architects over delay

The Board of Education plans a special meeting with architects Spahn and Barnes next Thursday to press progress on the unfinished high school addition. Superintendent Hauenstein blames the contractor and notes the architects serve as liaison and pushers between board and contractor. He says the project should be ready by the September 4 start and cites staffing limits at Swagler Plumbing of Seville.

Slow toll service study by Rittman chamber

The Rittman Chamber of Commerce is studying delayed long distance calls to and from Rittman after business leaders complained. The Ohio Central Telephone Co. reported toll service is satisfactory to the Public Utilities Commission, while the chamber and residents dispute that claim and discuss line confidentiality concerns.

Virginia talent shines as Miss Ohio contest winner

Virginia Wenger, Miss WWST of 1957, captured the special talent award at the Miss Ohio pageant at Wayne County Fairgrounds Wooster. A College of Wooster music student and Morton Salt Co helper, she performed Carnival in Venice on baritone horn and hails from S State St. Her mother praised her achievement as time for relief after the event.
