Alice Hicks and Mrs. fris Hicks join a 28 member party sponsored by Union Pacific Ry in Chicago for a six city western itinerary. They will spend five days at Yellowstone Park then five days at Zion National Park before visiting Bryce Canyon Grand Canyon Salt Lake City and return home around August 16.
The Daughters of America plan an ice cream social in Rittman Central Park on Saturday evening August 9. Attendees can enjoy home made cakes lemonade and ice cream.
The village council met in regular session with mayor, clerk Zigler and all councilmen. The pay ordinance of 1007.10 was approved. They discussed deeds to Knupp Cemetery, a 30 day extension on Square lots purchase, fire apparatus use outside the village, and adopted a four year park agreement for the miniature golf course now owned by Joseph Sherrick after sale by Ebert and Waldo.
A miscellaneous shower for Miss Dorothy Bechtel was held at Mrs. Howard Houck home Tuesday evening. She will marry Chas Wald soon. Music and games framed the evening with Mrs Tralpit Dreher winning first prize. Refreshments followed. Out of town guests included Mrs Glenn Ritter of Akron and Mrs MRalott Dreher of Orrville.
A surprise bridal shower was hosted Friday evening at Dr L A Yocum residence in Wooster by E P Yocum for Miss Teresa Payne Rittman who will wed Maurice Landers of Wooster on Sept 6 Five bridge tables were in use with prizes to Mu Ford Schrieber and Dora Wright A lunch followed and gifts were gathered on the center dining room table
The Grand View allotment on the west side saw another grass fire last Tuesday at 9 15 pm. Firefighters contained the threat quickly after arrival but delays occurred as autos crowded the truck, prompting Rittman Fire Chief Ed Mills to vow arrest for drivers within 500 feet of the engine.
A grass fire started in the rear yard of Walter Deagross set off a blaze that partly burned the nearby sawmill with an estimated loss of 100 dollars. Firefighters faced water access issues, hauling water from town as Chief Ed Mills suffered facial and back burns but continued firefighting.
Four water sprinklers have been placed around town as relief spots for children. The devices use ordinary Winch piping with arches punched for water escape. They are a welcome aid during the extreme hot dry weather. Nearby towns are reported to be using similar measures.
Paul Smith of Florida and Bernice Golightly were married July 30 in New Smyrna Florida by Rev Planchard J Law. The bride is a nurse trained at Shelter Sanitarium and cared for Smith during a January typhoid illness. They will visit relatives here before moving to New Smyrna for now.

Milton Escovitz of Ritman troop is named Eagle Scout in a late week ceremony attended by local scout officials. He earned 25 merit badges in two and a half years and looks forward to more Eagles at the October Senior Court of Honor.
A lake ceremony will be held Saturday at 12 o'clock noon on August 2 at the UB parsonage. Hubert Christian and Miss Ella May Shriver were married by Pastor Trev EB L Ort at the UB Church. They will host friends at 34 North State Street.
A Wayne county health weighing session is set for Thursday August 14 at Rittman High School from 1 30 to 4 00. Expert exams of babies and preschool children will be conducted with parental guidance based on findings. The free service is sponsored by the Wayne County health department through its executive nurse. Another session was recently held with good benefits.
The Rittman Automobile Club met in regular session to consider routine duties and adopt a resolution thanking all persons and organizations that helped make the Community Picnic a success. The club also endorsed road improvements from Wadsworth Road at the county line to Easton to connect with Route 36.

Mike Douglass, about 32, was arrested Sunday on assault and battery charges. He allegedly followed a girl of about 18 with a gun when she called for Marshal Mills, threatening to shoot. The case involved a Barberton connection and a $4660 fine and costs, with a light punishment noted.
Representatives of Akron Chamber of Commerce Mr Ritzman and Mr Sheffield attended the Rotary Club. A Neighbor's Day request was presented by Mr Ritzman. The club voted to accept invitation to be guests of Akron Rotary on next Wednesday.
Wittman and vicinity residents gather at Chippewa Lake Park for the sixth annual community picnic held last Saturday. Attendance official counts exceed 1,800, marking a new record amid broad civic support and cooperation. The event featured games, a baseball match between Rittman and Cleveland, a tug of war won by Rittman, and various children's contests, with sponsors including the Rittman Automobile Club.
W J Shook reports the Shonka plan a royal style reunion on Saturday August 16 in Central Park Rittman. The long running annual event gathers the family for a day of gathering and memory.
Mr and Mrs Walter Dearolf express thanks to the Rittman Fire Department and all others who assisted during the fire last Sunday reporting their appreciation and gratitude for the help received.
