Turtle watcher finds pine cones in nest on North Third Street

A curious North Third Street resident believes a mother turtle dove cared for her brood until Skip climbed a ladder and found the nest containing two pine cones. Other items note visitors from Ohio and Illinois, local meetings, a new baby boy in Orrville, medical notices, and Wayne County mobile stops.

Hold Father In Shooting Of Son At Napier Home

James Napier is held in Rittman jail on suspicion of shooting his son Patrick at 11:55 am at the Napier residence. The 16 year old was taken to Wadsworth Municipal Hospital, later moved to Akron Hospital. The father remained armed with a 32 caliber revolver used in the shooting. Police Chief Merle Heffelman reported severe blood loss from thigh wounds.

Alexander Family Reunion Draws 44 From Ohio Cities

The Alexander family reunion gathered 44 relatives from nine Ohio cities including Marietta Massillon Akron Mansfield Medina Wadsworth Wooster Canton and Rittman in Central Park. R W Ashbrook of Rittman said the Alexanders from Marietta sought City Park for the reunion.

Will Name Leaders To Supervise UF Campaign

Nine community leaders will supervise the fall United Fund collections. Campaign Chairman David Wright will select them within two weeks. UF directors split groups by industry, residence, commerce, clubs, schools, government and gifts. industrials expected to provide most funds.

Youngsters Prepare for Mardi Gras Parade and Prizes

Recreation officials announce a two dozen prize categories for costumes and parade entries. King and queen candidates are being chosen by children from Central Park Third Street Park Grandview and American Legion Parks. Files $50,000 Suit Against City

Mrs Betty Stillwagner of Rittman sues the City of Rittman for 50000 in damages after she tripped on a curb crevice at West Ohio Avenue on the square. She says her shoe caught in the crevice and she was thrown to the sidewalk requiring hospitalization and medical care.

Wayne County registers voters at two branch offices

Wayne County Board of Elections opens two voter registration offices on Friday and Saturday August 17 18 at Diversion Hall in Rittman and Orrville Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Anyone in Wayne County may register at either location on those dates. Registration also available any time before September 26 at 5 p.m. at the Board of Elections office in the Wayne County Courthouse in Wooster.

Five-Day Fun Festival Starts Tuesday In Rittman

The five day festival opens Tuesday on North Main Street near Division Hall. The city carnival includes a ferris wheel and music from a calliope, with kiddie rides, bingo, shooting gallery, and a dunking booth. Prizes include a GE dishwasher, Columbia bicycle, AM FM radio, and other items on display at John R Winkler Insurance. Attendance prizes and a $100 cash prize will be drawn nightly, with a magician act on Wednesday and a teen street dance Friday and Saturday. Tickets are sold by local Lions Club, Fire Department, and American Legion members to fund community projects and fire department equipment.

Development Group Seeks Corporate Charter for Rittman

The Rittman Industrial Development Committee will file for a corporate charter this week. James Frye chairs the effort with David Wright and C E Rhonemus as incorporators. The group aims to raise capital via stock sales or private commitments to attract new industry, with Frye serving as president and Wright as chamber president. The Chamber backs the project and will cover up to 100 dollars of printing costs for a Chippewa Watershed folder, with other chambers invited to contribute.
