Early Morning Flight Ends With Belts Save Lives

At Wadsworth Airport a 1941 Luscombe piloted by John Miracle nosed into a brush pile after takeoff. Frank Huff and Miracle were pulled from the wreck by Jack Stromack. Miracle suffered facial injuries and planned mouth surgery. Officials credited seat belts for preventing worse injuries. The $2100 plane was total loss. Investigations by FAA, Ohio State Patrol, and Medina County Sheriff.

Band Calendar Drive Begins This Week

Rittman High School band members launch their annual community birthday calendar drive. Volunteers will canvass every street to compile schedules of school activities clubs churches and residents birthdays or anniversaries. Calendar ads come from merchants offering gifts and discounts during birthday week. For orders call the school music department or mail the form.

Auxiliary Moves as Easter Event Plans Are Finalized

Fireman's Auxiliary will meet Tuesday at 7 30 p m in Mrs Weldon Hardgrove home 55 South Metzger. At a recent meeting 13 members colored eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt and dishes were packed for the move to the new fire station.

Plans for land purchase for new Rittman high school near

Plans to buy land west of West Hill School for a proposed Rittman high school near Metzger Avenue, Rittman Road and West Sunset Drive move toward quick negotiation. Counsel for the district and the Ben Saurer Estate negotiate with landowners while appraisers assess sewer, street development costs and land types. An appropriation offer is discussed as a fair alternative to purchase.

Board seeks two rooms for next year’s students in Rittman

At Monday’s meeting Havenstein said I have cased the town while Robert Stoll urged public help in locating available rooms. James Frye stressed informing the community about the search as president Woyat added where can we pick up some rooms. The board also approved Helen Steiner as librarian at Northridge School in the fall amid Superintendent Hauenstein noting librarians are scarce.

Will Call Meeting On Operating Levy

Board member James W. Frye and William Holt were named to a committee to explain the 24 mill operating levy on the May ballot. Frye said the committee will stress the need for the levy and why 38 mills are added to the expiring 192 mill levy to fund opening the new high school. A meeting of interested citizens will be scheduled soon.

Cyrus Ault 87 Marshallville farmer dies after short illness

Cyrus Ault 87 of Marshallville RD died after a brief illness at Orrville Osteopathic Hospital. He was a farmer until retirement. Survived by wife Grace Hershey, daughters Marcella Kennedy and Eileen Devore, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Services at St. Michael's Lutheran Church Marshallville. Burial in church cemetery.

Reward Offered for Information in Property Damage

The City of Rittman will pay a $50 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone damaging public or private property. The notice comes from the Rittman Police Department and City Manager Macauley J. Gosney.

Clayton Hoover Retires as Trustee in Milton Township

John Rastorfer of Sterling appointed by Milton Township Trustees to fill the unexpired term of Clayton Hoover who retires due to ill health. Rastorfer will join the Wadsworth-Rittman Joint Township Hospital Board until Jan. 1, 1970 and previously served a four year term in the 1950s. He is Milton Township Volunteer Fire Department member and Sterling Farm Equipment maintenance supervisor. Hoover served 11 years as trustee and contributed to county road upkeep.

The Rittman Fire Department tackled two Friday fires including a grass blaze on Home Street and a shed fire at the Paul Baker residence. RAID Elects Directors at Annual Meeting

The Rittman Area Industrial Development Corporation announced at its annual meeting that book value per share rose to 538 with par 500. Five new directors were elected to two year terms: Ben Bauman Don Stepfield Al Broadhurst and James W Frye. Robert Bodager was chosen for a one year replacement term.

Rittman Fire and Police Move Open House Delay

The Rittman Fire Department and Rittman Police Department will move into the Safety Building at East Ohio and North State Streets on May 1. An antenna was moved to City Hall last week and minor items will be relocated. the open house date will be announced.
