A fragmented column by KE Conley jumbles politics, economics, science and culture. It lampoons congressmen, voter promises, and social trends while noting New York’s linguistic diversity, a stock fatality, animal poisonings, and a satirical verse about a girl and stock investments.
The Américan Legion post has a shooting gallery above the Rittman-Hardy building. For several days the Legion members practiced for a planned encounter with Barberton post, held last Tuesday evening at the gallery. The rivalry was spirited and both teams were evenly matched.
The United States Civil Service Commission announces an exam to fill the Sterling Wayne County postmaster position. The role pays 1300 dollars annually and expires March. Applications are due to the commission in Washington, and exam details will be mailed to applicants. The test is expected to be held at the Rittman post office.
The Presbyterian Ladies Auxiliary will hold a flower and bake sale at Drennéman's grocery on Friday and Saturday. Proceeds support church programs.
The Ritman High School has received official notice of admission to the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The certification states the school is on the approved list for the period from March 20, 1990 to March 20, 1931, with continuous recognition since prior leadership.
The Woodrow Wilson Club of Wayne County will hold a meeting April 25 at the Weitzel Building to observe Thomas Jefferson's birthday. Open to all Democrats with speakers Hon C E McBride Mansfield former Lieutenant Governor Ohio Wms Pickeral Hon John McSweeney Hon William Thom candidate for Congress and Hon George White candidate for Governor.
Two autos collided near a railway crossing when William Mills, Akron, turned in a depot yard and broad sided Mrs. Earl Vaught’s Chevrolet going south. Mills drove a Ford sedan. the Chevrolet was only lightly damaged while Mills’s car sustained severe front-end damage. Neither driver was hurt. Mills is brother of Ed Mills, Rittman marshal.
Herr Wolff Von Dewall foreten editor of the Frankfurter Zeitung spoke at an Inter city Rotar meeting in the Weltzel building Wooster on Wednesday night. A 6:30 dinner was served and about half the Rittman club attended, with members saying they were well paid for their efforts.
The American Legion Auxiliary met in the Legion rooms to discuss the May Poppy Sale benefiting disabled veterans. After business, a local hour featured an original comedy sketch “Silas and Mirandy ets j to Tobeyville” by Mrs A M Wenger and others, with prizes for spelling and refreshments served by the committee.
Akron heavyweight Frank Kitts, 15th pro bout, has won all 14 prior fights, with 11 by knockout. He and manager O H Wilson plan to travel to Chicago by April 18 ahead of a potential ten round main event at the Armory on May 15 benefiting the Akron Police Department.
The women's missionary society of the Rittman Brethren church met last Thursday evening April 10. The program included songs scripture readings topics by several members, a poem, a vocal duet, and a brief business session followed by a social in the basement with lunch served by hostesses.
Notice warns to abate dogs and chickens at large as a nuisance harming neighbors gardens. It states a tagged dog is not licensed to roam and urges compliance.
The High School Athletic Association plans a Wednesday night Song of Old Kentucky and Thursday's Lone Star Ranger screening to raise funds for Avance baseball. Admission helps finance next year’s home games and includes a chance to win a pass to all home athletic events. Tickets available through students.
Workers on the Polsky building site in Akron fell 32 feet when a scaffold broke. Isenberger, with Nick Lucas, Clayton, Smittle and Frank Watters, were on the platform. Lucas injured his knee while the others escaped with minor injuries. They were taken to City hospital for treatment.
Ida Ralston executrix of the Tedrow estate and half sister of Clarence Tedrow was killed in a Wadsworth pool room. She has been appointed administratrix of the estate which includes a small amount of personal property. W. P. Stusser and E. B. Stusser of Dalton are nephews.
A large Friday night gathering supported a Rittman Fire department fundraiser. Reverend Hendrickson served as announcer, introducing acts from the high school orchestra under Mr Noida, the Krities banjo group, and a variety of entertainments. Midway acts included Cater and Steele, magic tricks by Mr Braman, and a crowd-pleasing finale. Ushers listed among Hazel Gardiner and Onota Milla Ruth Hathwill.
Jess Young of Rittman state supervisor for the Woodman Accident Insurance Company and his wife plan a June trip abroad for three months. They will depart via New York and land in Ireland Jerusalem and Mediterranean ports are listed in the itinerary. They expect to return to Rittman by way of New York in September.

The Travelers' Club met Monday night at Miss Dora Wright's home and decided to give away a quilt in April with the exact date to be announced later. A special meeting is scheduled for next Monday night at Mrs. Campbell's.
Mr and Mrs Harry Wortley recently came from Kansas and will leave immediately from their Washington state home to return to Kansas for several weeks. They reside in Washington and will stay in Mrs Kathryn Krout's rooms during their absence.
The family of Fred W. Snyder extends appreciation to all who offered kindness and contributed to their comfort during the recent bereavement.
Fred W. Snyder proprietor of the Ritting Tacklug died of strychnine poisoning and heart trouble. Funeral held at the home in Chartex with Rev Hendrickson officiating. Survived by wife Mary, sons Charles Raymond Frank, five grandsons, brothers and sisters, and many friends. Burial at Knuppys cemetery. service noted by local mourners and community.
The Senior Christian Endeavor group of Ritiman church plans an Easter Sunrise Service at the church chapel beginning at 6 30 in the morning. It is an annual event. the service aims to teach the value of a quiet hour of devotion and invites all to attend.
