W. B. A. Notes and Rally Practice Reminder

The regular monthly officers meeting was held Tuesday afternoon with a covered dish supper afterward. On Tuesday evening the W. B. A. meeting opened with president Martha Trent presiding. Twenty three members attended. On Tuesday evening April 15 all officers and guards should be at the hall for rally practice at seven o clock. Please come.

Circle No 3 of the Presbyterian Ladies Auxiliary will hold an Easter Flower and Bake Sale at Brenneman's Grocery on Friday afternoon and Saturday April 18 and 19. Proceeds support church activities.

Death of a Rittman Park Bear After Illness

A bear at Rittman Central Park died after a brief illness lasting under 24 hours. Caretaker E R Lance and Dr. Krelder attempted treatment, but the bear died while weak from a long winter rest. The bears were a gift from John T. Fisher three years ago, who helps acquire two more cubs from Yellowstone Park for the future.

Town Officials Attend Rotary Meeting in Rittman

Town leaders including Hager Hanes and the Village Board of Public Affairs attended a Rotary Club gathering in Rittman. Wadsworth Mayor accompanied speaker Rhayne Rheyne who criticized road work timing as the state highway department announced a contract to improve the road south of town on April 29.

Sunday School Party At Presbyterian Church Basement

Mrs V A Garver's Sunday school class held a bi monthly social in the church basement Monday evening despite a storm. Reports from the capsule sisters were shared and several games were played. Lunch was served.

Miss Alice Cleland, Apple Creek High School senior, won the Wayne County oratorical contest for the second time, representing Apple Creek.

Vil lage Council Debates Finances and Cemetery Supervision

At a regular meeting the Vil lage council discussed damages from a water spill on the Wm Shackelford property with the city agreeing to repairs and final settlement later. Dredging Big Chippewa Creek was endorsed and a cemetery supervision transfer from Knupp's Cemetery Ass'n was explored by a three man committee. The meeting also considered a street project from Edwards Go-tora and granted the Highway Department culvert work on the south road before adjourning.

Pastime Theatre To Undergo Extensive Improvements

Death of Dell Wilson former Erie crossing flagman

Dell Wilson former flagman at the Erie crossing and longtime Rittman resident died last Sunday in Perryville Ohio at age 63. Born Kendallville Indiana October 23 1866 he married Marie Babb Gifford April 26 1896. Survived by son Ernest E in Youngstown and daughter Mrs Walter Boling of Perrysville Ohio funeral services were held at the home of his daughter and at Miram Rapids Church and burial followed beside his wife. Relatives include one daughter one son one grandson Ronald Boling and a sister Mrs Neva Fink with two stepdaughters.

New Improvements For Rittman Park

Rittman Central Park caretaker Lance announces spring cleanup and planned upgrades. Shrubbery from a New York nursery will adorn park corners, with 12 varieties ordered along with 10 birch trees to be planted at random. New play equipment including a sliding board teeter rotator and swing will be installed for children.

Marsal Ed Nille reports a city cleanup in Rittman from Thursday April 24 to late April. Residents must place all non ashes rubbish in a suitable container on the curb during the week. Failures will require residents to haul trash away at their own expense.

Freshmen Glee Club Entertains Rittman High Girls

The freshmen class of Rittman High hosted the girls glee club last Monday evening at Alma Aah brook State. The program was varied and entertaining with refreshments served after. Yuzel Gardinera is this year's president of the club.

Senior Class To Present Three Distinct Plays At School

The Rutman Hilsh Bebdolx senior class plans three separate one act plays in the school auditorium near May first. Each play will be distinct in atmosphere and theme with no shared setting or costumes. Titles are Flush Triftes and Grandma Pulled the String with mystery comedy and drama respectively. The high school orchestra will perform before and during intermissions and funds go to the senior class treasury.

South Road To Receive Major Widening And Paving

The road south from ti tian to Portage Road will be widened and repaved with a full two-layer cement surface. State officials in Columbus ordered county surveyors to begin work immediately as a contract for 1700 feet of improvement is set for the 29th. Bridges will be rebuilt and the route elevated, with hopes plans for West Ohio and Eriefest follow.

Firemen’s Show a Sellout Prediction at Rittman

The firefighters’ show at Rittman Friday night is expected to draw a full house with advance sales exhausted. Elaine and Sis the Hillbilly Harmonies, popular on WAY radio, will headline along with Irvin Krites of WEFIC Akron and the Rittman High School orchestra performing selections.

A H Thomas, manager of the Rexall Store in Rittman, has returned from Citizens Hospital in Akron after a three day confinement for sinus trouble. She went to the hospital last Monday morning and came back feeling much better.

Sudden death ends life of Rittman resident Fred W. Snyder

The life long Rittman resident and former owner of The Rittman Baking Co died suddenly on Wednesday afternoon from arteriosclerosis. He was 68 or nearly 69, with survivors including wife and sons Raymond Charles and Frank. Brothers John Snyder of Rittman Nicholas Barberton and Samuel Los Angeles. Funeral at 2 pm Saturday from Charles Snyder residence with interment at Knopp’s cemeteries.

S. E. Rolph Escapes Injury From Gasoline Fire

S. E. Rolph of Wadsworth nearly suffered serious harm last week when a can of gasoline he used to clean a stove exploded, igniting paper baler. He escaped with only minor injuries after friction caused ignition. a former Rittman resident, Rolph avoided a worse outcome.

Dr C 42 Gress Leads Tri County Champs

Special reservations and a community effort highlighted an event featuring the High School boys basketball team winning the tri county championship this year. A theatre program at Lean's State Akron provided a night of entertainment with a vaudeville front and a motion picture titled Theirl Said No. William Fants presented a rare Q and A with comedian Gano Dennis, offering a unique treat for the boys.

Musicale In Planning In Wayne County Schools

Wayne County schools and civic groups plan a county wide musicale to be staged at Wooster High School. The event, held annually before summer vacation, showcases student talents with selections by Rittman and the high school bands and choirs. The date is set for Friday April 18.
