On Tuesday 88 residents of Rittman signed a petition to county commissioners requesting a new street opening on the north side of the Erie Railroad from Sterling avenue to Elliott street or Main street. Two routes are proposed. no change to Sterling avenue or its crossing is sought. Signers continue to be solicited and the petition awaits presentation while support exists alongside opposition.

Salt Street paving work begins with steam shovel
The first work on Salt Street paving started Saturday as a steam shovel moved by Rittman Realty Co. cleared surplus dirt and cinders. The shovel was moved from Main Street to Salt Street to begin grading with planks protecting Main Street. Surplus dirt may be disposed at preferred sites if not needed for fills. Weather permitting, work will press ahead toward pavement completion this summer.

Death of Samuel Berger in Rittman area
Samuel Berger a farmer near Rittman died at his home April 8 after a year long illness. Born March 19, 1860 in Switzerland, he came to America in 1851 and married Marie Berner. He leaves a wife, five sons and three daughters, and homes in Doylestown Pueblo Detroit and Rittman. Burial followed at Marshalhalle. he was a ten year member of the Reformed church.
