Rittman High Band members earn superior ratings at Alliance contest

Members of the Rittman High School Band scored well at the Northeastern Ohio Solo and Ensemble contest in Alliance on Saturday April 5. Students including Roger McGee Mary Baker and Jim Wenger earned Superior and Excellent ratings and qualifying spots for the State contest in Columbus and Flint Michigan.

Gillman Named Top GE Toppers Member at Akron Dinner

Karl Gillman, salesman for A. L. Ebert, earns Top Pers Club honors for 1940 in a five county district. He joined five others in the exclusive club at a Retail Development League dinner at the Akron YMCA. District includes Summit Wayne Holmes Ashlam. top award based on 1940 GE merch sales totaling at least 20 000 dollars and coverage across three lines. Gillman received a gold pin ring plaque and business cards. set a two week record of 20 GE household sales.

Catherine Twinem Wins State Legion Essay Award

Representatives from the County Legion Posts met Wednesday. Two bills before the State Legislature were discussed and urged against by telegrams. Catherine Twinem of Rittman, 12th grade, read her state essay and will travel to Washington, D. C., April 12. Wayne County Council added a $10 recognition. Six Wayne County members attended the National Commander's banquet in Mansfield.

Vernon Keating Transferred for Airplane Mechanic Training

Vernon Keating son of Mr and Mrs Walter Kenny of F Main St is a private in the US Army Air Corps. He is transferred from Jefferson Barracks Missouri to Missouri Aviation Institute Kansas City for airplane mechanic training and will be stationed in Panama after training.

School Board Receives Legion Resolution and Health Report

The Board of Education met at the high school office and approved paying current bills. A Legion post resolution criticized Superintendent Garver over the Catherine Twinem essay award, and the board tabled action pending investigation. Fire! Four Calls Wednesday Wear Firemen Down To A Walk

Rittman firemen endured a busy week with four calls on Wednesday taxing crews. A grass fire threatened several buildings along route 4 near the countryside, controlled by the new six gallon tanks attached to the motor, Fire Chief Everett Winkler said. The department assisted by Wadworth when needed as crews battled flames that reached high to a man’s head but were quickly suppressed.
