New Chestnut Street Crossing Opens as Stock Yards Closure Fences
A new Chestnut street railroad crossing was opened Tuesday. The crossing at the stock yards two blocks west was closed and fenced. The electric signal was moved to a new location and put in operation Tuesday. Graveling of the crossing will be done soon. George Jung filled about 700 yards and did a fine job.

A coal seam five to ten feet thick was found by oil drillers near Salem in Richardson County. Geologists say the vein lies too deep for practical use, at about 1600 feet, but the discovery offers hope Nebraska may hold larger deposits. Oil and coal may not coincide. drilling continues statewide as natural gas from Oklahoma could reduce dependence on surface fuels.
