Potters residents report a campaign of animal poisoning killing seven to fifteen dogs and many cats. Dogs are scarce as officials investigate possible deliberate poisoning versus spoiled food. Authorities pursue leads, hoping to halt the attacks.
The cafe in the Wells building has reopened this week under the management of Mr and Mrs E C Tebrinke of Kimball. They bring restaurant experience and good local recommendations. Two Tebrinke children have entered local schools while the third high school boy remains in Kimball to finish the term.
Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli was elected by 62 cardinals in Rome on the third ballot to lead about 332 million Christians. He chose the name Pius XII signifying peace and is seen as a spiritual leader and steadying force after Pope Pius XI.
Responses have come in from about a third of the statements mailed week before last. A dollar and a half may seem small to you, but hundreds of renewals will decide whether we can pay our paper bills. Please pay at once to help keep the paper going.
The Methodist church sponsored a father and son banquet for the community with 129 attendees. The Ladies Aid Society organized the meal and serving, Rev. Tanner led community singing, and Superintendent Connell acted as toastmaster with lively toasts and responses.
The high school dramatics class under Miss McLaughlin stages an eight o clock program in the school auditorium on Friday March 3. Admission 10 15 25 cents. The program includes music oration dramatic readings a one act play and a humorous reading with a large cast of students and staff. Key pieces include The Masterful Man of the Ages Abraham Lincoln and One-act Unicorn and a Fish with cast names listed among the Leafdale family attendance. The event closes with a benediction and expressions of thanks to Mr Sauter and the audience.
A baby beef club named Plucky Plainsmen formed Friday February 17 in district 138 under county agent Swinbank. Six members attended with officers Fred Reetz leader Earl Anderson assistant leader Ralph Anderson president Kenneth Spencer vice president Dorothy Anderson secretary Douglas Reetz song leader Geneva Elmquist news reporter. Irene Dunlavy and Ralph Anderson absent. Meeting at Fred Reetz home followed by pamphlets distributed by E W Hughes. Next meeting at Edgar Anderson home March 28.

The Farmers Union of Sextorp local will meet at the Pete Nelson schoolhouse this Friday at 7 30. The program includes a report on the state convention a talk on the Champlin refinery in Oklahoma musical numbers and an oyster feed. Attendees are asked to bring their own bowls and spoons and a large turnout is hoped for.
Mr and Mrs E K Browning returned Saturday from an extended visit in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas, detailing the trip's stops and highlights in the Midwest.

Second and third grade pupils earned top spelling marks this week. Third grade honorees included Harold Fiegenschuh Tommie Kubes Leona Jane Tank. Second grade names were Patsy Fiegenschuh Gerald Gerler Margaret Ann Gunderson Marjorie Himmelright and Mary Margaret Jaeger. Freda Lou Myers visited school last Wednesday morning.
Kenneth Rosenthal enters fifth grade in Scotts Bluff County. The county superintendent’s office awards readers for earning hundreds in spelling. Norman Patterson selects a third book, Jeane Hagemeister chooses an Indian book, and Eugene Stormberg with Warren Wiekhorst pick dog books.
The list includes June Ann Challburg Connell Cynthia Ann Reetz Jane Adair Heimer Marjorie Ann Smith Woyce Juelus Vivian Nelson Jimmy Pritchard Warbara Kaderli. Reetz received a third book for a spelling award. Challburg stood up longest in weekly cipher down and Smith in the spell down.
Potter earns consolation honors at the Class C basketball tournament in Lodge Pole after losing to Brule in the championship race. Brule dominated, beating Potter 21-16 and Sunol 18 15, then defeating Bushnell 40-19 in the finals. Potter beats Broadwater 21-14 and Goodview 34-17 in consolation rounds. Brule meets McGrew at Sidney for the regional title with winner advancing to Lincoln state tournament.
The patient Mrs Frank Hruza at a Kimball hospital is described as in about the same serious condition all week. She rested somewhat easier Thursday forenoon. Her son Francis is home from the navy and her sister Mrs Hilda Brothers of Long Beach California is present. Mr Hruza’s brother from Edgemont South Dakota also arrived recently. There is sincere hope for a complete recovery.
The Marah meeting of the Potter Community Boosters club is postponed from March 1 due to the Father and Son Banquet. The next meeting is set for the evening of April 5.

A three act comedy written for Nebraskans will be featured on the Chick Boyes show this Saturday night. The play is described as one of the better class of stage works and promises not to be missed.
A Monday sale at Skiles Turnbull drew an exceptionally large crowd and was highly successful despite unfavorable weather conditions. The event featured strong attendance and solid bidding, marking a notable market day for the community.
Mr and Mrs Chub Winn hosted Mr and Mrs Geo W Hicks and Leland Hicks at a Monday evening dinner in honor of the visiting guest.

Two snows this week produced a total of 0.87 inches of precipitation. Snow lay level with temperatures dropping to zero Wednesday morning, then moderating. Some melt occurred Wednesday and Thursday, but nights stayed cold. Unsettled weather and lower temperatures are forecast for Friday.
