First Unofficial Program July 4 1917 Potter Nebr

The notice outlines a local Fourth of July program in Potter Nebraska. It lists a morning and afternoon sequence with assembly and parade, speeches by Mr. Dunlap of the Standard Chautauqua System, races including Norse, foot and auto events, bucking contests, a ball game Sidney versus Kimball, dancing, supper, moving pictures in a tent, official British war films, and all day music by the local band.

Reeves pitched ten strikeouts, Gregory five, Babcock homered and Reeves doubled, Kammerer hit by pitch. Dalton fans saw decisive hitting as Potter belted three and two base hits, one of the season’s biggest crowds attended. Next game Potter versus Sidney at Sidney.

Village Board Moves to Declare Hog Yards A Nuisance

In regular session the village board approved several small bills and, responding to citizen requests, ordered the hog yards of C W Johnson on Front street removed as a nuisance. The meeting included a broad discussion with no further actions taken. Plans to celebrate at Potter and RWAL festivities were announced.

Public nuisance bootlegging case at Campbell establishment

Sheriff Litton and Hansen searched F. E. Campbell's place in Potter with no liquor found inside but discovered five pints of whiskey behind a rock pile. Campbell pleaded not guilty, fined 100 dollars plus 113.70 costs, paid, and the village board later labeled the establishment a public nuisance. The county court conviction marked a broader crackdown on bootlegging and a pledge to eradicate the illegal trade.

Two More June Weddings This Week

Luther Killion, a third trick operator, married Miss Marie McIntyre of Byers Colorado after meeting in Sidney. They resumed work at the depot in Potter and were greeted by a large crowd and band music on their homeward arrival. The couple will live in their new house as the groom’s friends wish them lasting happiness. An Olander Peterson wedding note appears elsewhere.

Market notes from Omaha stockyards June 21 1917 cattle and hogs

Cattle receipts around 225 cars or 5600 head with strong top prices up to 13.60 for fat cattle the day’s high. Cows and heifers in good demand for desirable grades while medium grades softened. Hogs: a large, generous supply of about 160 cars, prices generally 5 to 10 higher.
