Combines in the Wheat Harvest Show Large Machinery

A travel note praises Holt Caterpillar and International combines at work in the country. Harry Flinther’s Holt Caterpillar is the largest seen, cutting a 24 foot swath and threshing well. Several International machines are common and performing excellently, with two Savage models new to the area awaiting observation.

Golden Red Lodge No 306 Constituted at Lodge Pole

Lodge Pole Express reports that Golden Red Lodge No 306 was constituted Monday evening in Lodge Pole with 150 attendees. Grand Master Lewis K. Smith of Nebraska, Grand Custodian Robert E. French, and Grand Chaplain Dr Charles M. Shephard led the ceremony, with visitors from Potter, Sidney and Chappell assisting.

Body of Soldier Arrives in Chappell

The casket bearing Hilmer Edward Jeppson of Chappell arrived yesterday via guard from Ft. Russell Cheyenne. Jeppson served in Co C 128 Infantry and was killed in action in France August 1 1918. Services will be held at the courthouse steps next Saturday at 2 pm led by the American Legion post. Red Cross members and ex soldiers are urged to attend in uniform. Body lies in state at A J Bracken home with Legion guard on duty day and night. Citizens may pay respects.

Sixteen year old boy unconscious after farm accident near Hemingford

Orville Hucke sixteen year old son of Mr and Mrs C C Hucke near Hemingford was seriously injured days ago while taking alfalfa. He was dragged about thirty rods when the rake line tangled and he was knocked unconscious. He suffered a broken nose collar bone a fractured skull and a jaw wound needing stitches.

Celebrate 47th Wedding Anniversary of Mr and Mrs Leafdale

The 47th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Martin Leafdale was quietly celebrated on Friday July 22 with a chicken supper. Children and grandchildren arrived bearing eatables and drinkables as the couple recounted anecdotes from forty seven years while the gentleman played guitar and sang Swedish and American songs. Sixteen grandchildren joined the gathering along with sons and daughters and their spouses.

Local Legion to Present Movie Show at Leyfang Theatre

The local American Legion Post will show the five reel film Sitting on the World and the two reel comedy Johnny Dooley at Leyfang Theatre on August 6. Admission is 25 and 50 cents including war tax. H J Finnegan left for Medicine Bow Wyoming for the summer homestead. Mrs Finnegan is visiting Ontario Canada.

Bear Cats Fall to Kimball in 10-2 Rout

Kimball defeated the Bear Cats 10 to 2 as Herbert Linn scattered seven hits for Kimball. Pritchard fanned nine but allowed fourteen hits while Potter’s lineup yielded two earned runs. Whitstine homered in the eighth, Ehlers doubled in the seventh, and Kenyon impressed at second. Next Sunday games listed include Potter at Sidney and Julesburg at Kimball.

Rain brings soaking for valley amid dry stretch

A general rain moved through Wednesday evening around seven o clock, delivering 0.79 to 1.00 inch in the valley and totaling about 0.90 inch by midnight after a final 0.11 inch. Nearby territories saw prior rains, Potter-adjacent areas had been dry for weeks, no hail reported. School starts in a month. Bushnell to host annual fall festival August 19 and 20. John Seyfang was a business caller in Cheyenne last Saturday.
