Tonight is the last home game of the pre Christmas season with Broadwater aiming to extend its scoring punch after several wins. The Coyotes seek revenge after a prior loss in the sectional meet at Mitchell and hope to display a smoother offense to win. Admission is 35c and 20c, game begins at 8:00.
California weather over the past three months has kept skating rinks from filling with ice. The rink, built by volunteers, awaits turning on water to freeze. A spell of cold weather is needed to transform the ready rink into a usable skating surface.
Sunday school meets at ten o clock and the church urges every home to cooperate. Morning worship starts at eleven with special music and a sermon Our Means of Living. Intermediate League meets at six thirty and Epworth League also at six thirty for youths. Evening worship at seven thirty features hymns and a sermon The Reward. Choir practice is at seven Wednesday and all members are urged to attend.
The W F M Society met last Wednesday at Mrs Sachtsen home with Mrs Snocker assisting. Women were grouped by birth dates for the party. Over 1100 pennies were collected to support a foreign student aided by the local society. A large attendance and a luncheon followed.
A European journalist Dr Albert Oeri visited Nebraska last year and shared impressions in a book. In Omaha he admired vast stockyards and a cattle hogs sheep trade. Lincoln showcased its new capitol designed by Bertram Goodhue costing ten million dollars. He notes the Missouri River navigability efforts and describes a Winnebago reservation visit focusing on history and farming challenges.
The operetta adapted from the familiar fairy tale will be shown at the Seyfang theatre next Tuesday evening December 16 at 8 00 oclock Ninety grade school pupils form the cast under the direction of music instructor Mrs Lula Slocumb Details appear in the school notes in this issue of the Review
The season has produced a thaw with melting snow, leaving roads generally clear though some crossroads impassable. Over the past two weeks, warm days and cool nights prevailed with nightly freezing limited. A real winter spell could help, but current conditions are pleasant for people and animals alike.
Mr and Mrs C P Herboldsheimer and children extend thanks to friends and neighbors for efforts to reach their home during the fire that destroyed it. They praise the Potter Fire Department for timely response and thank locals who offered rooms and helped rebuild the basement as they begin anew.
Corporal Leander Herron of St. Paul Nebraska remains the sole living Civil War veteran in Nebraska to receive the Medal of Honor for valor. At 85 he lives by the fireside but in 1868 near Fort Dodge Kansas he protected four enlisted men from an attack by about fifty Indians while serving as mail courier. Herron will recount the action on Nebraska radio stations as part of a national program honoring patriotism and sacrifice. Nebraska veterans helped shape the state’s early settlement and national identity.
A communal note urges proper spelling of Christmas in type and avoids using X in place of the name. The message emphasizes respectful language and states no Xs will appear in the type case until after Christmas.

Potter schools close Tuesday evening December 23 for Christmas vacation and reopen Monday morning January 5 1931. High school students with 88 percent average and good citizenship may be excused from final exams. The second six weeks scholarship honor roll includes Dorothy Spencer Gordon Johnson Fern Ferguson Helen Tank and others with high averages and strong attendance. The operetta Goldilocks and the Three Bears will be presented December 16 at eight o clock featuring Ninety pupils from grades with cast lists including Goldilocks Jean Nelson and Fairy God-Mother Doris Tutt. A Colonial Minuet and other specialties are planned between acts with many named performers from grades one through five. The first Christmas story booklets are being prepared and Joseph Jensen earned a hundred in spelling last week.
Week notes show Keith Schwartz and Vivian Gregg among students attending and celebrating birthdays. Arthurian school sections report grade promotions, honors, visitors, absences due to illness, and a dramatic basketball game where Ovid, Colo. defeated Potter after a close, hard fought match.
Sixth and seventh grades report Gladys Smith back after a three week absence. Mayron Chaliburg and Jean Nelson were ill and absent. Mrs Spencer and Evelyn visited the room last Monday. Jean Nelson holds the top average in the last six weeks tests with 95 percent.
Raymond Oeltjen sprained his foot and missed two and a half days of school. Freshmen study Dickens Christmas Carol and Sir Walter Scott The Lady of the Lake. Classes plan Christmas gift projects and room decor. Earl Moench was out half a day and Tony Christensen out a day. Our class banner is displayed and described as the prettiest of four.
The M E Sunday school will stage a Christmas pageant titled The Night of the Star. A large cast of children will perform with extensive preparation. The event is set for December 23 at 7 30 p m with a fuller notice planned in next week’s newspaper.
Potter Nebraska village board met December 1 1930. Bills approved including labor supplies and ads totaling a few hundred dollars. Firemen list approved. resigning engineer Wallace Challburg to be replaced by Donald Shea. A new electric rate schedule proposed for 1931 with a home service option and lower Dix Nebraska rate to boost usage.

Circulars announce a 10 day sale by the R. S. Proudfit Company with a 10 percent cash discount on all items. Manager Dean Hagemeister states the discount applies to any article in the store, large or small. Sale runs until Christmas Eve.

A roundup of local visitations at Nelson and Madden households includes Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Anderson, Mrs. V. A. Nelson, J. M. Nelson of Sidney, Mr. and Mrs. John Rasmussen, Jim Johnson and family, Peter Howtrd, Marié Trobaugh, E. M. Beale, and Glenn Beale. Social activities feature a pie social and program at Olsen school, a district 11 53 school box supper planned by Ella Baack, and corn shelling services offered by Merscheim & DeLashmutt of Potter Nebr with new machinery and hauling. The Herboldsheimer family expects to move into a new basement home this week after fire.
