The Cincinnati School Board advances the West High gathering to May 12 to allow voters a pre election questions session on the 5.2 mill operating levy. A dinner precedes the 8 p.m. meeting with district principals and administrators from 15 schools.
Mark Caster, 10, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Caster of 5634 Candelite Ter, clinched the Pinewood Derby title for the second consecutive year in St. Antoninus Cub Scout Pack 614. Other local notes include John Brosnan at Veterans Hospital in satisfactory condition and Theta Phi Alpha initiation for Chris Bohmer at Ohio University Athens.
Andrew J Brady long time Western Hills High School instrumental director celebrated 25 years at West High with a May 2 testimonial dinner. About 250 attendees including administrators, teachers, and former students honored the beloved maestro. The event featured a silver wristwatch, personal tributes by Dr. John Worrell and Merrill Van Pelt, and was funded by bake sale profits and dinner tickets.
District Three Police announce open house from 12 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday May 11 as part of National Police Week with officers available for residents. A Peace Officers Memorial Day program at City Hall begins 1 30 p.m. May 15, followed by wreath laying at 2 35 p.m. at the Police Administration Building. Mayor Ruehlmann will speak at 1 45 p.m. The events include a parade from City Hall and a press conference Friday at 4 p.m. in the Holiday Inn downtown.
A 16 year old Delhi Hills youth, Kenneth McSorley, was killed when a car left Muddy Creek Road near Cleves Warsaw Pike and struck an embankment around 12:20 a.m. He was a Oak Hills High School freshman and track team member. Three others were injured and transported to St. Francis Hospital in serious or satisfactory condition. The Delhi Life Squad and Sheriff Patrol investigated. Funeral arrangements were handled by Harry Meyer and Sons Funeral Home.
The first of four weekly commitment programs will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes School at 8 p m on Thursday May 8 with William F Chenault leading a discussion on law and justice as a community responsibility. The Western Hills Civic Planning Council meets May 7 at 8 30 p m to discuss the school tax levy and opposed the city reorganization plan until citizens study it.
Mark Muhlhauser and Greg Noble will represent Robert E. Bentley Post 50 at Buckeye Boys State at Ohio University Athens from June 12 to 20. Muhlhauser, son of Mrs. Howard Muhlhauser, is a Western Hills High School junior and active in student government and athletics. Noble, son of Mr and Mrs Louis Noble, is Elder High School junior, active in student government and journalism and holds multiple roles with school papers and local media.
Delhi Township will maintain 638 fire plugs within its borders starting May for 50 to 350 per plug depending on replacement needs. Fire Chief Kusar said flushing and leak checks will occur in early May, street by street, as the county trims a 100000 annual storm sewer fire plug budget.
About 180 of roughly 300 attendees answered a post series survey on Project Commitment at Delhi School. Most White participants, with a smaller Black presence, reported improved understanding though some saw little value. Follow up plans target broader Black involvement and housing solutions.
