Sophomore students at Western Hills High School fear missing June 1971 diplomas as a 5.2 mill school levy vote on May 19 threatens to shut Cincinnati Public Schools. Veterans Poppy Sales Aid War Veterans and Orphaned Children

Veterans of all wars benefit from American Legion Auxiliary poppy drives in Cincinnati during the third week in May. Budde Unit volunteers will canvass Price Hill and surrounding streets to raise funds for veterans and their children, with proceeds supporting hospital visits, gift shops, parties, and care homes across Ohio.

Woman Killed Seven Hurt In Weekend Traffic Mishaps

A Price Hill woman, Mary Lewis, 54, died after being struck on Glenway Ave near her home. Seven others were injured in multiple weekend crashes on Glenway Ave and Guerley Rd involving five cars and several youths. The driver in the fatal incident, Murness Walker, 29, was not cited and the case remains under investigation. The weekend crashes also included a red light collision at Glenway Ave and Guerley Rd involving Steven Hein, 16, and Michael Martini, 20, with several occupants treated or released from St. Francis Hospital. A separate note mentions Overlook Ave resurfacing as part of a 1969 city project.

Civic Council Opposes May 19 Cincinnati School Tax Levy

The Western Hills Civic Planning Council voted to oppose the May 19 election on the Cincinnati school tax levy. The meeting, led by Executive Secretary Ralph Quinn, addressed candidate selection for November, dues for the Citizens School Committee, and objections to city budget reallocations. The council also planned letters to State Rep. Norman A. Murdock opposing a delay of the Ohio Supreme Court ruling on property evaluation.

Two Robben Brothers Die In Truck Power Line Crash

Delhi Township brothers Joseph and Leonard Robben were killed when the bed of a dump truck struck high voltage wires near the Valley Yacht Club. Paul Robben reported Joseph was electrocuted while raising the bed to unload fertilizer, freezing him to the truck before Leonard died at the scene. Funeral home handling arrangements for the Robben family.

Price Hill Schools Face 60000 Cut In Repairs If Levy Fails

The Cincinnati Board of Education would defer more than 60000 in repairs at seven Price Hill schools and cancel 885000 in improvements if the 5.2 mill operating levy is defeated in the May 19 special election. Diettert notes a 812063500 deficit for 1969 would persist without the levy, forcing major cuts across Cincinnati schools.

Five youths injured in two-car crash near Anderson Ferry and Cleves Warsaw

Delhi Life Squad treated the Wagman and Dietsch youths at the scene before transporting them to St. Francis Hospital. Victims include David Wagman 13 and Steve Wagman 6 both of Delhi, Joseph Dietsch 11 and Frank Dietsch 17 of Price Hill, and Harry Guel 17 of Price Hill with various injuries. In a separate call, Robert Hunter 79 died of an apparent heart attack at 5622 Antoninus Drive.
