Delegates withdrew Taft Stassen and others on a dramatic third ballot as Dewey clinched the Republican nomination. First ballot led 434 to 224 for Taft. second 515 to 272 for Taft. third 1094 to Taft 272. Dewey accepted the nomination amid a thunderous ovation and the convention adjourned to pick a running mate. Unconfirmed reports suggested Halleck or Bricker as Dewey's vice presidential choice.

The New Vienna American Legion softball team fell 9 to 5 to Marshgill at Leesburg Ball Park on a Wednesday evening. Orville Huffman pitched for Vienna allowing 12 hits as Schraw’s lineup collected 10 clean hits but failed to string them together. The Legion remains optimistic about a strong summer season in the league.

Lt. Gen. John E. Hull arrived at Clinton County Air Force Base in a C 54 to visit relatives in Greenfield before Wednesday. He commands U S Army Pacific Headquarters at Fort Shafter Hawaii and was formerly task force commander for the Eniwetok atomic tests. William Mullenix is charged with first degree murder in the Barnett case after wounding himself and killing Betty Barnett at the REA office. George Neffner Named IOOF State Delegate for National Meet
George Neffner will serve as Ohio State delegate to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows national convention in September in Minneapolis.
