New Vienna Legion Drops Leesburg Ball League Opener

The New Vienna American Legion softball team lost 7 to 6 in eight innings to the Leesburg Citizen in the Leesburg league opener on Wednesday. Eight teams competed, including Greenfield Welfare Finance, Wilmington Air Base, Leesburg Independents, Hillsboro White Cloud, Hillsboro Steen and Beets, and Marshall.

Rev B E Wright Resigns Pastorate Due to Ill Health

Rev B E Wright, recently reappointed pastor of the Highland and Memphis Methodist Churches, resigns because of ill health. He has been a Cincinnati hospital patient with unchanged condition. Mrs Wright moved the family goods to Marshall last Saturday. Judge Hugh Wright filled his brother’s church duties last Sunday.

Mengold Elected President of New Vienna Lions Club

R. W. Mengold was elected president of the New Vienna Lions Club at a Wednesday night meeting succeeding John G. Hie. Also chosen were Eugene Drake as first vice president Harry L. Carey as second vice president D. J. Carter as third vice president A. W. House as secretary L. H. Fullerton as treasurer Russell Faris as tail twister and directors R. W. Fenwick Vaughn Huffman.

Stanforth Takes Navy Research Post as Physicist

Stanforth, son of Mr and Mrs H G Stanforth of Lees Creek, will work as a physicist in the physical chemistry laboratory of the Metallurgical Division at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC. He reported June 15. A Miami University graduate in physics mathematics and chemistry, he is the only of 600 Miami alumni with all three majors and held leadership roles in Phi Beta Sigma.

Miss Wilma Stanfield Accepts X-ray Training Position

Miss Wilma Stanfield daughter of Mr and Mrs Oscar Stanfield has completed X ray technician training at General Hospital Cincinnati Ohio and will take a position in the office of Drs H G Remike and E C Elsey in Carew Tower Cincinnati on June 28 After one year she will take the X ray state board examination to become a registered X ray technician She is now on vacation at her parents home.

Retired Dentist Dies At Lynchburg

Dr. Frank R. Terrell, 77, a longtime Lynchburg dentist, died at his home Thursday night. Services were held Monday at 3 p.m. at K. K. funeral home with burial in Wilmington. Survivors include his widow Anna F., a sister in Miami Beach, a brother in Lynchburg, and several nieces and nephews. Local relatives attended.

Samantha Girl And Woman In Car Wreck

Mrs Frieda Creed wife of Donald Creed and Miss Gloria Chaney escaped with minor bruises when the 1941 Chevrolet sedan driven by Mrs Creed ran off Rt 62 near the Hillsboro waterworks lake north of Hillsboro. It struck a guard fence fell down an embankment and landed on its side near the water. They were treated by a Hillsboro physician with no serious injuries.

Mrs. Grace C. Moore and Miss Carlisle of McKinney Texas will arrive Friday to stay three weeks with their aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs E B Edwards. They also plan to visit their aunt Mrs Frank Terrell of Lynchburg.
