New Vienna man Mr. Dodson leads a campaign to bring a liquor question to Leesburg voters. He seeks signatures to place a local option issue on the ballot with five questions on alcohol sales including beer and wine, plus licenses for off and on premises consumption.
Ann Sauer reports on local social notes and sports from New Vienna. Mrs. Emery Rhoads and Mrs. Charles Wolfe are mentioned, with a nod to an Olive correspondent. Paul Rulon homered in Leesburg while New Vienna fans watched an Independ ent game and upcoming Softball at Leesburg Park features New Vienna versus Steens of Washington DC next Wednesday at 9:00.
Mr and Mrs Burch Laymon will sell two registered Ayreshire yearling bulls of selected pedigrees at a sale on Monday night July 12 in St Johns Ohio. The sale is sponsored by the town of Sylvania.
New Vienna American Legion fell 6 to 2 at Leesburg as Leesburg Independents played solid defense and offense. Orville Huffman pitched for New Vienna with Whitmer catching as they collected four hits. Next they face Steen's Market Hillsboro at 9:00 under Leesburg lights in a hot league matchup.
The local Masonic Lodge will hold a sunrise breakfast Monday morning July 5 in connection with Master Degree work. The lodge opens at 4 30 A M with the first section of the work, breakfast at 6 00, then the second section of work. Neighboring lodges are invited to attend.
Mrs Winna Hadley of Rochester New York is visiting with Mrs Geneva Phillips and other friends during a social visit with local acquaintances.
Mr. and Mrs. J W Carroll and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Lindsey of Hillsboro and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Briggs of Lynchburg were Sunday afternoon callers of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Briggs.
The body of S Sgt Charles L. McCoppin arrived in Midland and was taken to his parents home in Martinsville. Funeral services are set for Friday at 3 p m with burial in Martinsville Cemetery under Dale Turner. He was born February 16 1919 at New Petersburg and died February 24 1945 in Luzon after fighting in New Guinea Philippines. Survivors include his parents one brother Duane and six sisters.
Mrs Laura Arthur of New Burlington wife of Rev C A Arthur suffered facial injuries and a fractured nose when an auto she rode in with her daughter Miss Lois Arthur collided with a car driven by Thomas Sprinkle at South street and Xenia avenue Wilmington. Lois Arthur escaped with minor cuts and bruises. Left front ends of both cars damaged and police reported the turn directions.
Members of the Highland Methodist Church will host a reception for the new minister and his wife Rev and Mrs Thoburn Enge at the church Friday evening July 9 at 8 o clock A welcome program will be followed by refreshments
Roger Frances and Jean Johnson of Hermit California spend time with Mr and Mrs Sam Johnsons during a local social visit.
H. W. Williamson of Wilmington has become cashier at the New Vienna Bank replacing John G. Hite who resigned effective July 1. Williamson recently worked at Brown and Brockmeyer in Wilmington and previously served as assistant cashier at Spring Valley National Bank and as cashier at First National Bank Wilmington from 1941 to 1946. He and his wife and their son Zane plan to move to New Vienna as soon as possible.
William Keith Russell 43 of Rush Center Kansas died suddenly of a heart attack at 4 PM Wednesday at the home of George Blair in New Burlington He is survived by his wife Rose Mutbhy Russell and one son William Joe The body will be shipped to Kansas for burial Friends may view at Davis Funeral Home until 7 30 PM Thursday

Mr and Mrs Leod and family spent Tuesday and Wednesday with Mr and Mrs F L Morris of Zanesville. Roger Dodd returned home with his parents after spending the past two weeks with the Morrises.
