Soldiers report in the Carpathians northwest of Kapul as Central Powers retreat under Russian assault. Prisoners are captured and control in the Ostrovo region shifts with action near Lake Ostrovo.
Petrograd reports heavy combat as Russian forces drive a Turkish German counter attack in Galicia along the Sansea river line. Russians storm Baranoff heights, seize 500 prisoners and a mountain battery. Russian torpedo boats bombard Haltjik sinking twenty one barges used by Bulgarians for bread shipments.
Allied forces renewed their push on the Somme last night and report a gain by capturing a small wooded area. German assaults in Verdun were repulsed.
Paris dispatch reports Serbian forces on the Macedonian front launched an offensive last night near Lake Ostrovo. The war office announced a violent engagement and that Serbian troops captured a height west of the lake.
London reports the artillery duel on the Dorian front continues as the official campaign account details ongoing operations in Greek Macedonia. Further details are promised on page two.
Evan B. Davis of the Guilt Coast Produce Exchange says a creamery will be pursued if Colonel Bain and associates are not persuaded by a mass meeting at the county courthouse on Wednesday at 11. Several hundred pledged farmers will attend. Davis expects Bain to face broad farmer support and stock subscriptions, with other interests ready to take the project if needed.
Dr Rudolph H von Ezdorf longtime surgeon in charge of the Marine Hospital Service and a Public Health Service veteran, died suddenly Friday in Lincolnton North Carolina while aiding in a mosquito survey. His daughter Olga and wife accompanied the body to Washington for burial. He was born in Pennsylvania forty three years ago and was the son of Count R H von Ezdorf.
United States Steel rose to a new high of 102 on the stock exchange, an overnight gain of over two points, surpassing the prior record. Unfilled orders for U S Steel as of August 31 totaled 9,680,357 tons, up 66,765 tons from July 31 according to the monthly statement.
Several hundred witnesses watched the government steamer William T Twyning launch from Mobile and Ohio docks at Fier 1 around 10 o clock. The vessel was blown onto the docks during the July 5 storm and will receive minor repairs at Ollinger and Bruce docks. Meanwhile work continues on destroying the City of Mobile and contractors plan to raise the steamer James A Carney in the coming week.
Labor leaders of national and state prominence were summoned to New York as a conference within 24 hours could trigger a 24 hour tie up of industries employing AFL affiliates. Samuel Gompers was urged to rush to New York to coordinate actions against wage restraint contracts and defend transit workers seeking wage increases.
The Interborough announced it would apply to courts for injunctions to restrain labor leaders from interfering with subway, surface, and elevated operations. In Augusta Maine on September 9 Republicans and Democrats issued rival forecasts for the upcoming state election with gaps of 18 000 to 20 000 votes. Democratic chairman Pattangall predicted 71 000 votes and a 3 000 plurality with wins for governor two U S senators and at least one congressman. Republican chairman Ham forecast 76 000 votes for the party and a 15 000 edge aided by 3 000 Socialist and Prohibitionist votes, predicting sweeps in all four congressional districts.
The British steamship Norwegian of the Leyland line cleared for Liverpool with what officials call the banner cargo of the year valued at 912984. Loaded by Mobile Liners Inc the ship carried 10032 bales of cotton 703 tons of steel billets 947 tons of railroad rails 78800 splice bars and 2916 sleepers as she passed the channel at 3 30 Saturday morning drawing 26 feet 6 inches.
The navy ends the John Paul Jones civilian training cruise after 2,500 civilians trained since August 13. The six reserve battleships will land most of the personnel today in Norfolk Charleston Boston Philadelphia and New York. Admiral Benson says the mission exceeded expectations and strengthens navy civilian ties to boost enlistment.
The latest Agriculture Department report shows 221 firms holding about 143 million dozen eggs in cold storage, nearly five hundred million cases or more in ice vaults. The figure reflects conditions a month earlier and notes a large inventory in storage.

T E Broussard of Chatom Washington County Alabama filed voluntary bankruptcy in district court. He lists liabilities of 16354 dollars and no assets. Case referred to Referee R T Ervin after prior bankruptcy adjudication by Judge H T Toulmin.
General Superintendent A. 8. Mc Lean leads road tax enforcement as arrests rise for residents who skip the $2 tax or road work. County Treasurer George E. Stong notes decreased collections. warrants issued in the inferior criminal court. Ellis Richardson, Jack Cade, John Coleman and Gale Coleman fined $2.60 or ten days for nonpayment.

The French claim a small wood east of Hoy and say 7 700 Germans captured since September, while many German dead were found after failed counterattacks. In the east, Russia resumes mountain-front assaults near Baranoff and Halicz as Galicia sees heavy fighting.
Tom Johnson, a white man, was fined $5 and ten days in jail by Judge Chamberlain for assault and battery. Justice of the Peace J. A. Delchamps testified the defendant beat him days ago. Ison Burge was fined $25 and twenty days hard labor for assaulting his wife Annie. Storks was fined $60 or 60 days hard labor for beating Willie Davis with a knife.
Dr. J Tully Liddell long time Government Marine Hospital Service figure in New Orleans becomes surgeon of the lower bay quarantine station. He and his wife will travel to Mobile early next week to assume duties succeeding Dr A F Lancaster. Liddell’s career includes posts at Quarantine La and police health office at New Orleans.

Mrs. V. B. Atkins mother of E. B. M. Atkins an insurance adjuster injured in a wreck with J. W. Harris of Jacksonville Fla arrived in Mobile on Friday accompanied by her son Victor Atkins. Reports from Inge Bondurant Sanitorium Saturday say the injured men are recovering rapidly and expected to leave the infirmary next week.
Sidney Metcalfe a white youth sent to jail for sixty days by Recorder Eds for allegedly stealing a carriage harfeur, harfeur days containing 265 dollars and jewelry from Mr K F Kimbrough. He was discharged Saturday on a rehearing granted to save Mobile for oud.
