State engineer outlines a guaranteed route titled Mississippi coast pledges and promises ten build commitments. Path finders claim the plan will securely connect coastal points with a durable Jackson Highway alignment.
Mobile county officials on Friday pledged in writing that every foot of the Jackson highway through Mobile would be built within three years. The guarantee, signed by all road commissioners, was offered at the request of state highway engineer W S Keller and will accompany the Pathfinders report to the Nashville executive committee.
Walter H. Crim of Salem Indiana led the Jackson Highway Pathfinders at the Cawthon Hotel briefing. R E Toms called Biloxi and Pass Christian coast resorts, noting storms necessitate safeguards. The group hinted the coast is the strongest link in the Alabama route, with New Orleans neutral, and plans a concise merit report on two routes.
New York suffrage leaders mobilize about 50 000 women and 10 000 men for a Fifth Avenue march starting at Washington Square at 3 pm. The event features a mother and child division with decorated carriages and a victory float headed by Alberta Hill the grand marshal.

Nick Andros's place was found with 20 bottles of beer. S H Murray’s place had no liquor found. Detectives checked many other locations with no liquor found.
Judge Samuel B Browne will hear the petition for an alternative writ in Laz Schwarz vs Price Williams probate judge Tuesday at 10 AM. The hearing to restrain Williams from certifying a recall petition and taking action in the matter will occupy the full day. Stevens McCorvey McLeod represent the plaintiff and Yerger Foster oppose the restraining order for John Case and enter G Jackson who filed the recall.
W T Goubil representing the Retail Grocers and Merchants Association announced a campaign to bring a proposed new creamery to Mobile. He said grocers will interview county farmers to urge high quality dairy stock and pledged united support for the industry, noting Mobile spends over a million annually on butter and often buys second and third rate product from the North. The group aims to boost public affairs and further growth of Mobile’s dairy industry.
The Federal Trade Commission ordered an immediate investigation into alleged combinations of cotton buyers in North and South Carolina and Georgia. The inquiry follows complaints to Commissioner W. J. Harris, who says price variation across towns may result from territorial divisions among buyers. The probe will determine if the alleged practices have constrained markets and kept prices down.
A. Bernard of Chicago admitted to police he ran a 4 grafter scheme defrauding Mobile residents with fake picture enlarger giveaways and a non existent prize draw. Recorder Eddington sentenced him to fifty days on the county road.
Kiln Mississippi lumber mill the Jordan River Lumber Company plans a quick reopening after a lull in business. An official says about 500 workers will be employed at the mill and related sites, with a 125000 foot ten hour capacity and plans to run day and night soon.
In Montgomery on October 23 rumor says the new state harbor commission for Mobile Harbor has been chosen. Reported members include Crawford of Birmingham Blair of Tuscaloosa and Mobile figures Dr A G Ward R V Taylor Paul Danner Thomas J O Connor and M C Forcheimer. No confirmation from officials by press time.
The probate court will not remove signers from the recall petition against Commissioner Laz Schwarz unless the petitioners who presented it agree. Judge Price Williams announced this after an Item inquiry. Frank Bischoff and L P Helmer filed affidavits seeking removal, saying they signed without understanding the action.
Edward Roche arrested for prohibited liquors in Baymen's hall East Royal Street. arraigned in inferior criminal court and fined 101 dollars or 30 days, with an appeal to the city court and bond set at 150 dollars. John T. McGrath fined the same. appeals. Clarence Collins dismissed. Henry Neville dismissed. Morris Brooks car case continued to October 25.
Officers Sheridan and Bischoff reported to police headquarters Saturday morning that about 11 45 o clock Friday night a shotgun filled with a heavy charge was discharged in the neighborhood of South Carolina and Lawrence streets. They made an investigation but could discover nothing.
The Lumber Exporters Line, formed by eleven Southern lumber firms, designates Mobile and Gulfport as home ports with ships to sail for London Genoa and Liverpool. A. I. Staples of the Bank of Mobile and J. W Summerville of Gulfport are among principal organizers, with capitalization at 100 000 dollars and allied firms totaling 5 million. The venture intends to ease wartime export pressures and expand to additional ports as demand grows.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy urged a national Jefferson Davis Highway from the Southern states to San Diego California. The road would be built by county supervisors as the convention discussed Congress bills. A report on naming the Civil War the war between the states was presented, with objection to the term civil war.

A town tour preceded the departure visiting Augusta Evans Wilson Home Spring Hill College and other local sites before returning via Dauphin Way Broad Street and Bay Shell Road to the fairgrounds. Time constraints prevented extending the trip to Cedar Point or Moffatt roads.
