Mobile and Alabama are urged to provide strong representation for the Old Spanish Trail convention this Friday and Saturday. Five states will assemble in Mobile to push a through Gulf Coast highway, with four states counting on Mobile and Alabama for leadership and coordinated support.
Pensacola hosts West Florida highway meeting opening a Mobile delegation. As many as eighty cars join the parade across Baldwin county. Georgia towns Thomasville Valdosta Bainbridge send reps while Dixie Highway supporters from Macon Waycross to Jacksonville plan to speak. A welcoming committee will greet delegates arriving Friday and Saturday.
George W. Grayson appointed a 15 member Biloxi committee to attend the highway promoters convention between New Orleans and Florida via Mobile. Delegates include Dr. W. T. Bolton, F. E. Pringle, J. E. Lewis, Arnaud Lopez, Louis Staehling, Louis Goldman, W. P. Kennedy, Mayor Edward Glennan, J. Cy. Batton, Postmaster John Meunier, Jacob Tremmel, Dr. H. M. Folkes, J. V. Hagan and A. Philbrick.
Miss McTammany an Akron Ohio soprano describes her trip to Naples Italy visiting the Cunard liner Aquitania crowded with 2400 wounded from the Dardanelles. She recalls the scene as indescribable with many bodies broken or missing limbs.
Conflicting dispatches from London Rome and Washington recount the fate of the American steamship Communipaw. Officials await clearer reports as a Standard Oil tanker Petrolite is also reported attacked by a submarine in the Mediterranean.
News from Rome and Athens reports the American oil steamer Communipaw sunk in the Mediterranean by a submarine. Officials of Standard Oil await word on the 39 crew members led by Captain Nordstom and four American engineers. Dispatched reports say wreckage and no direct crew information were found.
Members of the University organization are given a chance to vote on proposed by laws. Secretary's motion is laid over for further consideration.
The chamber of commerce will invite all in good standing to review proposed bylaws changes. Printed copies will be circulated, and a second membership meeting is set for one week from next Friday to gauge member wishes and discuss secretary duties.
The chamber of commerce bench revised bylaws to overhaul control, elections, memberships, and finances. One vote per member proposed with additional memberships for firms paying multiple dues. Secretary duties to be set as administrative chief, with board influence debated. Harmony claimed as tentative changes outlined before a full member vote.
Dispatches describe the American steamer Com munipaw likely not the sunken vessel off Tripoli. Petrolite reportedly attacked but escaped. Bulgarians defeat Serbians near Monastir with Serbs retreating and resistance noted. German troops near the Greek frontier are reported in Serbia. French forces along the Vardar are in favorable position and British hold the Strumitza line as Entente representatives meet in Paris.
British reinforcements move toward Mesopotamia before the Ctesiphon advance while Admiral Troubridge’s fleet stays with Serbian forces. Montenegro launches a counteroffensive, and Italian bombardment disrupts Gorizia’s commerce as the war widens in the region.
Reports from London say Serbian forces fall back behind Albanian and Montenegrin borders while German and Bulgarian units mass against allied lines in southeast Serbia. French positions at Monastir face strain as Montenegrin frontier resists, and Saloniki arrivals keep hopes for continued campaign alive. Heavy guns in Strumitza drive Bulgars back, signaling a major future clash.
The Allied War Council met again at the French general headquarters in Paris. President General Joffre presided with General Gilensky of Russia, Field Marshal French, Lieutenant General Murray, General Parro, Colonel Stephanovitch, the Belgian chief, and Japanese representatives in attendance.
Katheryn L. Junker sues Thomas J. Junker in Mobile County chancery court for divorce on cruelty grounds. They married in Chicago November 25, 1910 and lived at Dawes Alabama until December. She seeks custody of their 4 year old child and the court issued a writ preventing interference with farm management at Dawes.
The monthly meeting of the board of school commissioners is set for this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Barton Academy building. Finance and executive committees met yesterday and the country schools committee meets today at 1 prior to the regular session.

Several hundred attended the 11 o clock Trinity Episcopal Church service for Charles J. Gayfer, a Mobile dry goods merchant. Burial at Pine Crest Cemetery followed, with a large floral blanket from his employees and both active and honorary pallbearers from his staff and associates.
Hilda Sterling, 18, was found fatally wounded near Crisfield Maryland late yesterday. She said Chauncey Reese 27, married, shot her and then killed himself. Reese's body was later found. Daisy Andry filed for divorce from Sylvester Andry in chancery court on grounds of voluntary abandonment. The couple were married in Mobile county seventeen years ago.
The National Rivers and Harbors Congress opened its twelfth annual convention in Washington as Secretary of Commerce William C. Redfield delivered the opening address. Mayor Martin Behrman of New Orleans urged waterways protection and harbor development, touting New Orleans as a future cotton deposit hub.
News from Selma reports the killing of Thomas Smyly, a Thomaston, Marengo County, resident. A negro suspect fled to the woods and remains at large. Smyly left a sister, 45, in Selma and a dependent family.
William Schroeder was acquitted in city court on Wednesday of violating the prohibition law. The evidence showed liquor was found at his place but no sale occurred. Attorney Francis J. Inge represented the defendant.
Mobile and nearby counties plan Satsuma Day events with a Grand Ball at Battle House and a large parade featuring decorated autos from four counties. Prizes include a clock, bronze figure, and barrels of flour and orange croissant. tickets are free at Battle House, Reynolds Music House, and the ball committee chair. Judges for the parade are Henry Tacon, Gordon Smith, and A. Zimlich.
Washington reports fair conditions in Alabama and Mississippi tonight and Thursday with moderate north winds.
