RSVP Enlists Senior Citizens On LC Campus
Senior citizens join on campus through RSVP and Continuing Education at LC. RSVP stands for Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a national effort to involve seniors in community service. Mrs. Villa Jean Tiller coordinates RSVP in east Harris County from LC with Continuing Education. Volunteers serve hospitals schools clinics and centers and are insured while volunteering. Local support comes from Houston Metropolitan Ministries since 1972 with private donations funding about half the program. RSVP also publishes a local paper and holds quarterly gatherings while providing some out-of-pocket expense help. Shelby Singleton coordinates other senior activities and weekly meetings at LC including a monthly birthday event and outings with reduced bus rates. The new Great Decisions ’78 program begins soon with weekly groups starting Feb 6 and Feb 9. To participate call the CE office at 427-5611 ext 211 or RSVP at 522-1045 for Harris County details.
