Earthquake broadcast causes surge of LA disaster fears
UC Santa Cruz senior Roger Takacs staged a pretend earthquake broadcast from KZSC FM. Listeners believed the emergency and phoned for details, prompting an apology from station manager Maggie O Grady and a review of internal policies. About 24 calls were logged, with mixed reactions. The incident echoes Orson Welles's 1938 hoax.
