The university releases the spring semester final exam schedule for Page 3 coverage. Each department lists exam times, room locations, and code numbers to help students plan. Students should verify their courses with the registrar for any room changes or conflicts.
Lee College undertakes a multi year SACS self study led by Roberta Wright to evaluate every aspect of operations. The process runs 1993 1995 with committees workshops progress reports and reaffirmation reviews involving students and faculty to strengthen planning and future college practices.
A May 7 special election is expected to be held to recast ballots for Student Congress officers. The Lantern reports that an invalid ballot was cast by a Lantern reporter during April 30 voting. SC by laws require at large members to attend two meetings before voting. The executive council may decide on the special election.
Lee College plans outdoor commencement under the gazebo on May 14 at 7 00 p m with rain contingency in the gym. About 157 seniors are eligible and 140 will march, 20 more than last year. Key speakers are LaDonna Johnston and Carl Simpson. Scholarships include Henry M Austin, Kenneth A Marshall Memorial, and Gertrude Teter for top female AA, with Walter Rundell not awarded due to no qualified male. Talent Roster winner requires 2 75 GPA and transfer plans. About 20 certificates and five Hall of Fame honors, one deemed most important. For details contact Dean Sanders at ext 400.
LC faces an estimated 3 to 10 percent cut for fiscal 1993 as state funding remains unsettled. President Jackson Sasser and Dean Steve Evans note 41 percent of the current budget relies on state money, with 32 percent from local taxes and 10 percent from tuition. The college plans 10 percent cuts focused on non salary areas while seeking to avoid tuition hikes, though rising health costs complicate finances. The budget process continues with workshops and a June 24 deadline for final approval, contingent on state action.
The screening committee has sent top recommendations for three coaching slots to SC president Dr. Jackson Sasser after a full hiring process. Finalists include current head coaches Tracie Johnson Bill Foy and Alan Karl along with other contenders for volleyball basketball and baseball posts.
Lee College will replace florescent lighting with energy efficient fixtures in a project costing 173,524.30 dollars, funded half by the federal government and boosted by a 16,884 dollar incentive from Houston Lighting and Power. The college expects about 70,000 dollars outlay, saves 48,452 dollars annually, and a two year return. Some buildings will not be relamped due to existing efficient lights. The project aims to finish by June 30, potentially slipping into July due to supply delays.
