A large group of men gathered in Kemmerer for medical examinations as part of the draft process. About 269 registrants faced eye, ear, nose, throat checks and physicals, with most deemed fit for service or placed in limited service.
A crowded Lyceum meeting of local labor groups showcased enthusiasm and speeches by T R Jones and J A Creager amid war crisis talk. In Glencone an Italian Corolo is jailed after a fatal fight with Thomas Hill, while a Daily Silver Belt obituary tribute to Thomas W Davies details a life of esteem and mournful farewell.
Henry Hahn, a noted troublemaker in police circles, is reported wanted by an Idaho sheriff for murder. The case centers on Dan O Connell, found dead in a river near Mackay after Christmas, with Hahn and two others alleged to have been with him. Cumberland mines inspector Jack Faddies attended a hospital board meeting in Cumberland on Sunday.
Last Thursday a man witnessed a woman and her escort enter the alley between the Arcade and the Stock Exchange saloons. County Prosecutor Rose and Deputy Sheriff Bell investigated, indicting the Arcade proprietors for violating town ordinance. The board of county commissioners was notified to show cause why the liquor license should be revoked. The Camera urges citizens to uphold law and public decency in Kemmerer Wyoming.
Brady resigns and Halon secures the marshal post in Kemmerer. Dan Harrity is appointed marshal and Syd Johnston becomes the first assistant marshal. Harrity is praised as well qualified. Johnston previously served as marshal in Kemmerer.
Undersheriff Ben Bell reported Terrell, one of the prisoners bound for the state penitentiary, opened a toilet door and leaped from a rapidly moving train near Wamsutter. He survived the escape attempt before Marshal Dan Harrity arrested him. Terrell pleaded guilty and faced a four to eight year sentence in the penitentiary.
William Man, a Tech student, departed this afternoon for Cokeville Wyoming to his home as his brother was drafted and needed at home. His father is a prominent sheep man in the region and the labor situation is becoming serious.
